Spaghetti Westerns I've seen
By an Amazon.com customer
Django (2-Disc Limited Edition)Django (2-Disc Limited Edition)
Buy used from: $13.68
Sergio Corbucci's most famous western. Franco Nero kicks butt, as does the theme song. *
Django 2: Strikes Again [VHS]Django 2: Strikes Again [VHS]
Buy used from: $3.98
Of the many sequels to the original film, this is the only official one, and features Franco Nero's return to the role. More of a period action film than a Western, but still pretty fun. *
Once Upon a Time in the WestOnce Upon a Time in the West
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.60
One of the best spaghetti westerns of all time, and quite possibly the best western of all time. Amazing acting and music all around. *
The Great SilenceThe Great Silence
Buy new: $17.49 / Used from: $10.97
One of the most beloved films in the genre, a reputation which is well deserved. I'd place it in my Top 5. The ending will stun you. *
The Man with No Name Trilogy (A Fistful of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly)The Man with No Name Trilogy (A Fistful of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly)
Buy new: $14.49 / Used from: $13.86
The legendary collaborations between Clint Eastwood and Sergio Leone. Probably the films in this genre best-known to American audiences. All three are must-sees. *
Take a Hard RideTake a Hard Ride
Buy used from: $1.87
Decent blending of the spaghetti western and blaxploitation genres. The score (by Jerry Goldsmith) is too American, but it's still a good film. Fred Williamson especially does well with his role as a wily gambler.
Professional Gun & God's Gun (2pc) [VHS]Professional Gun & God's Gun (2pc) [VHS]
Buy used from: $1.77
Two movies with Jack Palance as the villain. The first one is another Corbucci/Nero collaboration, and has Palance playing a character named Curly years before City Slickers. Pretty good, if not excellent. The other is a strictly average film also starring Lee Van Cleef, Leif Garrett (!), and Sybil Danning (!) *
Days of Wrath [VHS]Days of Wrath [VHS]
Buy used from: $6.32
A story about a young man who becomes the apprentice of an elder gunfighter, and eventually is superior to him. Good performances by Giuliano Gemma and Lee Van Cleef as the student and teacher respectively. * (Note: This tape is missing 15 minutes and has horrible picture quality, so I need to get Wild East Productions' version).
Have A Good Funeral, My FriendHave A Good Funeral, My Friend
Buy used from: $1.99
Good, if sometimes confusing, entry in the "Sartana" series. Worth a look. *
The HellbendersThe Hellbenders
Buy new: $4.98
Another quality film directed by Corbucci. Joseph Cotten is good as a bitter former Confederate soldier.
Fistful of Lead [VHS]Fistful of Lead [VHS]
Buy used from: $7.99
Another Sartana movie, a.k.a. "Sartana is Here...Trade Your Pistol for a Coffin". Interesting performance by "Charles Southwood" (hmmm...wonder where he got that screen name...) as an eccentric gunfighter named Sabbath. This time, Sartana is played by George Hilton, rather than Gianni Garko. *
Four of the ApocalypseFour of the Apocalypse
Buy used from: $7.92
Very good, emotionally-charged film by goremeister Lucio Fulci. Tomas Milian is great as a sadistic S.O.B. named Chaco. *
Beyond the Law / The Grand Duel (Spaghetti Western Collection Vol. 10)Beyond the Law / The Grand Duel (Spaghetti Western Collection Vol. 10)
Buy used from: $59.98
Two good films starring Lee Van Cleef. The excellent score for the latter film was used by Tarantino in "Kill Bill: Volume One". *
Tales of the Shadowmen 1: The Modern BabylonTales of the Shadowmen 1: The Modern Babylon
Buy new: $22.95 / Used from: $25.23
Rick Lai's story 'The Last Vendetta' has appearances by several pre-existing fictional characters, including quite a few from Eurowesterns. *
KeomaKeoma
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $9.02
Well-made film starring Franco Nero as a half-breed in conflict with his half-brothers. Excellent camera work, and very atmospheric, but I didn't care for the music.
Mannaja - A Man Called BladeMannaja - A Man Called Blade
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $6.94
Effective flick with an ax-wielding hero. The main villain's accent is inconsistent, though.
Run, Man, Run!Run, Man, Run!
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $6.91
Sequel to "The Big Gundown". Good and fun. *
Once Upon a Time in the Italian West: The Filmgoers' Guide to Spaghetti WesternsOnce Upon a Time in the Italian West: The Filmgoers' Guide to Spaghetti Westerns by Howard Hughes
Buy new: $17.12 / Used from: $9.85
Nicely-done book covering 20 films the author considers particularly noteworthy. Nice array of pictures.
My Name Is NobodyMy Name Is Nobody
Buy new: $15.49 / Used from: $12.74
Comedy starring Terence Hill and Henry Fonda. Some funny moments. Nobody reading a tombstone: "'Sam Peckinpah'. That's a beautiful name in Navajo!"
Today We Kill Tomorrow We DieToday We Kill Tomorrow We Die
Buy used from: $14.99
Really good film co-written by Dario Argento, of all people. Odd though that the villain has a Spanish name but is played by a Japanese actor (Tatsuya Nakadai, star of the even better samurai film SWORD OF DOOM). *
CompanerosCompaneros
Buy new: $9.95 / Used from: $5.78
Highly entertaining Mexican Revolution film starring Franco Nero, Tomas Milian, and Jack Palance. Definitely a must-see.
Django Kill - If You Live, Shoot!Django Kill - If You Live, Shoot!
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $7.75
I just got this recently, and loved it. Brutal and bizarre. Note: as my comment for "Django Strikes Again" indirectly states, this film has nothing to do with the real Django. Who cares, though? It's still excellent.
Death Rides A HorseDeath Rides A Horse
Buy used from: $1.83
Great film, but not a very good print.
