Aimee Duffy has provided us with a retro pop-soul album that radiates forth with glorious vocal power that is mighty impressive. It is a very honest record, full of youthful yearning, and the production couldn't be any tighter. Best track: "Rockferry".

Providing us with vibrant, jangly acoustic rhythms and raw vocal quality, Amy has given us one of the best acoustic discs seen in sometime. Her songs are immediately catchy; and the music and lyrics will stand the test of time. Standout song: "Poison Prince".

On their debut, the Ting Tings have found that perfect happy medium between dance and rock music. Jules' precise drum rhythms help to propel the sonic boom forward. Katie's catchy guitar lines and emphatic vocals are the final touch on this polished debut. Best track: "That's Not My Name".

This Canadian folk-pop artist's debut features shimmering, sweet acoustic-laden tunes by a true talent of the highest caliber. The variation in tempo serves her well; and the vocals are very honest. A true original and a hidden gem. Best track: "In The Night".

The New York Buzzband of the year so far lives up to expectations on their debut disc full of eclectic, surf-rock sound with a dazzling variety of instrumentation and variation in tempo. Best track: "Oxford Comma".

Nash's brilliantly sarcastic and witty debut, although likened to Lily Allen, stands out on it's own because it's a piano-driven pop disc, and when she steps in to write a heartfelt tune, it's done even better by her. Best track: "Mariella".

This impressive British band led by Leila Moss features tracks that either channel raw guitar heaviness or downtempo tracks where Moss' voice is the band's greatest weapon. It will easily grow on you with repeated listens. Best track: "This Ship Was Built to Last".

Tilly and the Wall have been a unique band from day one as tap dancing is their main vehicle for percussion in their youthful music. On "O", they continue that, along with solid bass grooves, retro harmonies, and add a bit of arena rock. Their unique approach will always make them standout. Best track: "Pot Kettle Black".

Lenka, an Aussie newcomer to the solo stage, has provided us with a disc when first spun, seems like only pure pop. There is more than meets the ear here, as subtle, intriguing nuances of sound seep in from the edges on this clever piano-driven disc. Best song: "Trouble is a Friend".

This disc by Edwards is easily one of the best country-folk discs to be heard this year, is filled with creative lyrical vision, solid guitar work and her gutsy, determined vocals. Best track: "Oil Man's War".
