![]() | To Trust a Stranger by Karen Robards
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 There's romance, steamy, singe-the-sheets sex, humor and suspense all rolled into this predicable, yet cute little story. You gotta love Mac! He's absolutely insatiable.
![]() | One Summer by Karen Robards
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 This is classic Robards and one of her earliest works. Like all her opuses, she blends romance and suspence seamlessly, but the suspence here is minimal at best. If you can't stomach romances, then skip this one, but if you're a lover of heart-melting romance, then this one is right up your alley.
![]() | The House of Thunder by Dean Koontz
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 The premise was interesting and the characters were well-drawn, but I found the ending a bit anti-climactic. Nonetheless, the story was compelling and worth the read.
![]() | Killer Takes All by Erica Spindler
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 A role playing game taken to new dangerous altitudes. I'm pretty good at guessing the culprit and this one kept me guessing till the end.
Caveat: The identity of the killer in "See Jane Die" is revealed in this book. So read See Jane Die before you read this.
Follow up: Last Known Victim.
![]() | See Jane Die by Erica Spindler
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.49 I NEVER guessed the ending. After surviving a hit-and-run boating accident that had nearly claimed her life, Jane has begun to receive anonymous, sinister messages... Is it from the menacing boater? Does he wanna finish what he started several years ago?
![]() | Cloud Nine by Luanne Rice
Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $0.97 This story can rival any of Nicholas spark's books. A beautiful, yet heart-rending story. This one'll draw a tear...
![]() | Prior Bad Acts by Tami Hoag
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 This was my first by the Queen of Suspense and it didn't disappoint. I loved the repartee between Nikki and Sam. Even though I guessed who the culprit was, it didn't detract from its suspenseful tone. If you love suspense along with witty dialogue, you'll love this.
![]() | Missing Pieces by Joy Fielding
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 I love Ms.Fielding, but this book irked me. All of the characters were idiotic and the ending increased my frustration. If you've never read a book by her, don't start with this. Try "See Jane Run" which was an excellent, gripping read. If you're a fan, then just check it out of the library.
![]() | See Jane Run by Joy Fielding
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 A riveting damsel in jeporady tale. If you were to read any book by this author, pick this! The opening chapter starts with a bang: "One afternoon in late spring, Jane Whittaker went to the store for some milk and eggs and forgot who she was." Chock-full of suspense and intrigue, albeit the pacing was a bit too glacial for my taste. But it was excellent nonetheless!
![]() | Kiss Mommy Goodbye (Signet) by Joy Fielding
Buy used from: $0.01 This is a heart-wrenching, psychologically gripping tale of domestic abuse, kidnapping, and a mother's worst nightmare. Abuse is not always in the physical form - some wounds are just invisible. As a reader, you'll sympathize with the heroine's despair and root for her to persevere. This is a great read that left me teary-eyed in the end.
![]() | Death By Pantyhose (Jaine Austen Mysteries) by Laura Levine
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $1.42 I absolutely LOVE the Jaine Austen mystery series and they're all sublime and funny!! However I found this one to be the funniest. Laugh out loud humor guaranteed. Every single girl can identify with Jaine; she's so down-to-earth and likeable. I wish I had a friend like her. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! The first in the series is Pen For Hire.
![]() | Boy Meets Girl by Meg Cabot
Buy new: $10.07 / Used from: $0.01 Loved it! This is such a cute story that's written in an electronic format be it a blackberry, IM, text-messaging, email. She's the reigning queen of her genre.
![]() | The Boy Next Door by Meggin Cabot
Buy new: $10.07 / Used from: $0.01 I read this after Boy Meets Girl and then found out that this is the first in the trilogy. However, they could all act as a stand-alone. I loved this as much as I loved Boy Meets Girl. This is chic lit at its best.
![]() | Every Boy's Got One by Meg Cabot
Buy new: $10.07 / Used from: $0.01 Alas, this was the final installment and my least favorite of the trilogy. However, it was still worth the read.
![]() | Size 12 Is Not Fat: A Heather Wells Mystery by Meg Cabot
Buy new: $9.35 / Used from: $0.01 The Heather Wells mystery trilogy is soo much fun. Murder on campus can whet your apetite for more murder and mayhem. Meg Cabot is a talented novelist. The first two were great, but I was honestly a tad bit disappointed with the third installment because it felt rushed due to perchance a looming deadline. Nevertheless, it was a delightful read.
![]() | Queen of Babble by Meg Cabot
Buy used from: $2.84 Cute! Lizzie's an endearing gal who tends to blurt out the first thing that pops into her head. Life after love-gone-awry is what happens when ur busy making plans or in Lizzie's case, babbling her innermost secrets to a handsome stranger on a train after a heinous day. This scene reminds me a bit of Can You Keep a Secret, but the story is different. The characters are colorful-I love Grandma.
![]() | Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $1.44 This is a FUN story with a capital F! You'll be hooked from the first chapter. If you love chic lit and Confessions of a Shopaholic series, then you can't go wrong with this one. Emily has secrets... and then she divulges them all to a complete stranger on a plane. At least, that's who she thought he was at the time.
![]() | One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, No. 1) by Janet Evanovich
Buy used from: $4.00 What can I say that hasn't been said before by a legion of fans? A MUST-READ! Nuff said. Many heroines by other authors are clones of Steph; that's how phenomenal this book is.
![]() | Knock Off (A Finley Anderson Tanner Mystery) by Rhonda Pollero
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $1.75 FUN, FUN, FUN! This author is as witty as they come! if you love Evanovich, you'll totally love this one! And as a quote-aficionado, the quips and quotes at the beginning of every chapter is an added bonus! "You're never out of money till your credit cards are maxed out." lol
![]() | Mirror Image by Sandra Brown
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 Sandra Brown writes with a crisp descriptive prose that is reminiscent of Lisa Jackson's. Brown's storytelling-chops are showcased in this romantic-suspense novel.
After being mistaken for a senator's wife whilst comatose, Avery decides to fulfill her role as his pseudo wife in order to thwart the plans of a ruthless killer...
![]() | Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 Mr Perfect is a "romantic suspense" exemplifed. Excellent read. Jane is one of the most memorable characters I've ever read; she's feisty, vivacious, and witty. Mr Perfect scores a perfect 5.
![]() | The Pirate Prince (Ascension Trilogy) by Gaelen Foley
Buy new: $7.50 / Used from: $2.04 As far as historical romances go, this is IT!
Even if you haven't forayed into the historical realm before, you'll still like this.
My only gripe is that the heroine doesn't have much of a backbone and I tend to like my heroines brazen and gutsy. Neverheless, if you love historical romance or even the contemporary ones, don't miss this one.
![]() | The Store by Bentley Little
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.65 When I picked this up, I expected a horror-fest instead it was a snooze-fest. Granted, the prose was taut and crisp, but the horror was lackluster and the ending was ludicrious. It's a satirical story since the comparisons to the world's largest retailer, Walmart, are palpable. If you want a rollicking good horror story, try Richard Laymon/Dean Koontz's books.
![]() | A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 Of all Jude Deveraux's books (and I've read a handful... back in the days when I used to read romance books in droves prior to making my transition into the suspense/mystery realm), this is amongst her best along with Sweet Liar.
![]() | The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 I don't understand all the hype about this book. Granted, it was undoubtedly better than the movie, albeit Emily Blunt played her role to a T. The book was medicore at best.
![]() | Baby, I'm Yours by Susan Andersen
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 If you like books about twins and mixed identity, you'll like this one. This book won't challenge your intellect, but it's a fun contemporary romance and the dialogue is snappy. A sexy bounty hunter hauls a demure, respectable teacher outta her house, mistaking her for her irreverent, scantily-clad twin. She's hot under the collar and he's determined that he's got the right person.
![]() | A Dose of Murder (Pauline Sokol Mysteries) by Lori Avocato
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01 Meet the burned-out-nurse-turned-insurance-fraud-PI, Pauline Sokol. Despite her vow never to go anywhere near a thermometer, her assignments invariably require her to be in a clinic. I wasn't all that impressed with the 1st in the series but I promise you it does get better with each new installment. One Dead Under The Cuckoo's Clock is hilarious and you'll fall in love with the enigmatic Jagger.
![]() | Whiskey Sour (A Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels Mystery) by J. A. Konrath
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 Meet "Jack" Daniels, short for Jacqueline. She's an overworked, underpaid insomniac who's hot on the trail of a diabolical serial killer. Little does she know that he has his sights set on her. Why isn't this guy on the NY Times Best-Selling list?! This book packs a punch! The banter between Jack and her partner is a hoot! This book is entertaining, scary, and witty. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
![]() | Spying in High Heels by Gemma Halliday
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $2.44 Ms. Halliday knocked my socks off with her amazing debut! Maddie is a cross between Carrie Bradshaw and Nancy Drew. Life takes a turn to the worse when her boyfriend goes MIA along with $20 million and she's LATE. As if that is bad enough, while trying to find her indisposed boyfriend, she stumbles onto a killer... This is the personfication of a romantic/chick-lit-mystery. LOVED IT!
![]() | Scandal Sheet by Gemma Halliday
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $2.92 Ms. Halliday kicks off another fab 1st book to a promising series. Even though I loved Maddie in the HH series, I prefer Tina. She's a wise-cracking, sarcastic tabloid reporter who writes about the wild and famous. However, her column gets her on someone's bad - murderous side. This is a fun, romantic/chick-lit mystery at its finest! Highly recommended! Can't wait for the next in the series.
![]() | Blue Blood (Debutante Dropout Mysteries, No. 1) by Susan McBride
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01 This book is a winner! An entertaining book about friendship with lotsa laughs sprinkled in between. Andrea is a disgraced socialite who's trying to clear her (unpedigreed, according to her mom) friend's name of murder by trying to get employed in a sleazy diner called "Jugs", much to the dismay of her prim and proper, socialite mother. After all, no deb would ever wear such tawdry outfits..
![]() | Not Guilty by Patricia MacDonald
Buy used from: $0.01 This was my first by Patricia and she sure knows how to weave a story chock-fulla intrigue. However, it didn't keep me on-the-edge-of-my-seat and there was more drama than suspence. That said, I enjoyed this one and will definitely check out her books. Keeley's rebellious son is being accused of murdering his step father and Keeley's determined to prove otherwise in this great tale of Not Guilty.
![]() | Unmanned by Lois Greiman
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.99 A humorous and witty mystery. Lois' heroine drips with sass. I recommend it to anyone who wants to have a good hearty laugh. Her family could give Steph Plum's clan a run for their eccentricity. This is the 4th, so start with Unzipped, the first in the series. Fans of Evanovich take note.
![]() | Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 Talk about switching gears! I never woulda guessed that James Patterson could weave such a heart-tugging, bittersweet love story. It reminded me of Nicholas Sparks' work a little bit. There's a twist at the end of the book that I didn't see coming. It's the story of a mother, Suzanne, keeping a journal for her beloved son, Nicholas and the lesson of the five balls.
![]() | The Rookie Club by Danielle Girard
Buy used from: $0.01 This is a fast-paced, exciting police procedural thriller. It's obvious to the reader that she had done very thorough research. Her prose is reminiscent of Erica Spindler. Crisp. Taut. Never verbose. So if you like Erica, you'll like Danielle. Someone is savagely attacking female cops and the pressure to find the perp crescendos when a female inspector was found murdered - inside the precinct.
![]() | If Tomorrow Comes by Sidney Sheldon
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 This is the story about retribution and Tracy's adventures. This is the book that got me hooked on Sheldon - he's a masterful storyteller.
