(B-) An underappreaciated Fulci effort. I'm one of those rare people who enjoys Fulci's stylistic quirks more than his violence, so this one works out fine for me.

(B-) Bava film has a truly bizarre plot, mixture of psycho-thiller and supernatural horror. It doesn't make that much sense, but it holds your attention and has Bava's typical style.

(B+) Terrifically entertaining b-movie mix of cop thriller and sci-fi. Finds just the right balance of humor and seriousness.

(B) As usual, the mystery is dumb, but this is a nasty, stylish giallo with good kill scenes and some atypically interesting characters.

(C+) Lesser known Argento giallo, and not w/o reason. There ain't much wrong with it, really, but not much particularly right either. Just a generic example of the form.

(B) Nowhere near as good as the series was at its prime, obviously, but also a lot better than the last few seasons would lead you to anticipate. Also, it uses the format to more and better effect than anticipated.

(B) Breathlessly paced, though the action can't match the best stuff from the previous one. Also, Straitharn lacks the charisma to bring his tedious, stock villain to life. Still, it's generally quite cool, and we get to see more of foxy Julia Stiles and her ever-present, semi-vacant expression.

(D+) Somewhere hidden in here is a mediocre slasher movie, but even that is buried under a terrible backstory, excessive length obnoxiously vulgar dialogue, grating redneck characters etc. Don't whine about this being a remake; it's lousy in its own right.

(B) This mix of psych-thriller, slasher flick and weird-crap film is slickly made and always interesting, but it never quite manages to be genuinely compelling. Still, interesting alone ain't bad.

(B) Intriguing, well put together drama with good performances across the board, though it's pretty long for a film of this sort and drags a bit in the middle.

(B) Often called a Giallo, but this is more of an American style supernatural murder-mystery from Fulci. Has a very interesting story and more good visuals, though the twists become a bit predicatable after a while.

(B-) HG Wells follows Jack the Ripper in a time machine to 1970s San Francisco! Sadly, they kinda waste my precious time with a romantic subplot, but the central thriller is effective enough.

(B+) Probably the best Zatoichi film yet, and the most memorable. Here Zatoichi has a baby which he must return to its father. Also, the plot is a bit more consistent and well-paced then usual and it has more emotional punch too.

(B) Not as good as the original and with a sorta random, uncertain pace, but the action is generally very cool, which is all that matters. Totals for the year: 414 total movies, 365 previously unviewed movies.
