Nobody's like Ulali. Three women from three tribes with three octave voices. All songs are made of rich vocal harmonies and hand drums/percussion. This is a must-have for your collection. Their single Mahk Jchi is on a zillion compilations, but there are even better songs on this CD.

(Oneida) A good one to start with. Joanne is the matriarch of contemp-traditional Native music in my opinion.

A stellar collaboration between Bill Miller and Robert Mirabal, two of our best contemporary musicians who are also masters at traditional music. This showcases the latter. (Pray that they'll do it again!)

So to be honest, I understand why many find it weird that Mary plays flute. It really is traditionally a men's instrument and there's something very specific about that. It's not about equality; it's just something unique. But hey, this is the 21st century, and Mary is GOOD. Check her out.

Totally unique album featuring Robert on flutes and percussion, actually composed as a soundtrack for modern dance duo from Japan. On the more avant-garde side, but sparse enough that it feels completely traditional.

So this is a bit of a hybrid. But it works, and feels oh so right. Your grandma just might start dancing when you put this record on.

The title sounds suspiciously new agey, but new agey Robert is not. (It's a METAPHOR!) He's the real thing when it comes to flute music...AND he can rock out (proven in my other list).

(Mohawk) Jana sings traditional carols in 15 different Native languages with simple, beautiful musical accompaniment. Reminds us how many historical American cultural things widely thought to be owned by white America belong to us all.

Great Christmas album...can't go wrong with Bill.
