At Swim, Two BoysAt Swim, Two Boys by Jamie O'Neill
Buy used from: $1.60
I first read about this novel in an Irish Newspaper and immediately bought a copy. If is definitely not for the faint hearted. This is a long book which can lag if you have no knowledge of Irish history and have no interest in it. This took the Author Jamie O'Neill ten years to write, and at times it can read that way but once you break through it all this is truly a masterpiece in it's own right.
As Meat Loves Salt (Harvest Original)As Meat Loves Salt (Harvest Original) by Maria McCann
Buy new: $26.00 / Used from: $0.29
I read this book recently for the first time and was taken aback at how brilliantly this novel is written. It has been some time since I’ve read a truly great gay novel and at only 584 pages I was left wishing it would still go on. A must read, although perhaps it's not to everyone’s tastes. Maria McCann is an author I can’t wait to read again.
Exquisite CorpseExquisite Corpse by Poppy Z. Brite
Buy new: $11.97 / Used from: $1.00
My all time favorite gay book. This was the first novel by Poppy. Z. Brite that I read and from then on I was completely hooked. She is my favorite living writer, although nothing she has written since can ever compare to this great book. Warning, it's extremely graphic but you'll be absorbed by it.
Drawing BloodDrawing Blood by Poppy Z. Brite

This is my second favourite Poppy Z. Brite novel. I recently re-read it, which is unusual for me and I found myself loving even more. I probably identify more with this novel then any of the other novels Poppy Z. Brite has written before or since. If you are interested in Poppy Z. Brite but don’t think you can quite stomach Exquisite Corpse then I recommend you start off with this one.

Liquor: A NovelLiquor: A Novel by Poppy Z. Brite

Poppy Z. Brite took a whole new direction with this book which she then made into a series. This novel is about two young chefs opening a restaurant in New Orleans. Poppy Z. Brite married a chef, which has no doubt been the reason for the theme to this series. This novel gives you great insight into the behind the scenes running of a restaurant and is a great taste of what is yet to come.

The City and the Pillar: A NovelThe City and the Pillar: A Novel by Gore Vidal
Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $4.14
This novel is brilliant. There are so many parts of this story I didn't like but it still had me thinking long afterwards. Gore Vidal really knows how to write. The middle of this novel can get a bit lost at times but the beginning and the end are so powerful that it more than makes of for these flaws and it is bound to have an impact on you.
Close Range : Wyoming StoriesClose Range : Wyoming Stories by Annie Proulx
Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $0.01
This book of short stories by Annie Proulx is where I first discovered "Brokeback Mountain" a fantastic short story which at the time had me wishing that it was longer. To my utter disbelief several years later I heard that they had turned it into a script and are making it into a movie. Annie Proulx is definitely an author with talent.

Michelangelo’s poetry may not be flawless but it gives you a real insight into his loves, passions and the constant turmoil of his life.

CompulsionCompulsion by Meyer Levin
Buy used from: $29.25
Meyer Levin has definitely taken some liberties with this novel based on the true life killing committed By Richard Loeb and Nathan Leopold. This is a work of fiction and is limited by its 1956 publish date. I am still waiting for a good fictionalised version of this true life event to be written.
Clay's Way: A NovelClay's Way: A Novel by Blair Mastbaum
Buy new: $11.07 / Used from: $0.94
I found this book to my astonishment to be rather enjoyable. It can be quite difficult at times and there is occasions I would struggle to connect with any of the characters but when you do it makes for a good read if you’re not expecting much.
Into This World We're ThrownInto This World We're Thrown by Mark Kendrick
Buy new: $11.53 / Used from: $5.43
If you have read Mark Kendrick’s previous novel Desert Sons and enjoyed it then this is the novel for you. Personally I find Mark Kendrick's work to be quite weak and unbelievable. He is not a very sophisticated writer but is perhaps only aiming for the younger reader.
