The concert was filmed on September 30, 1987 at the Coconut Grove nightclub in Los Angeles. Roy Orbison passed away just over one year later on December 6, 1988.

These concerts marked the beginning of his return to live performances after the "movie" years. Although the "Aloha from Hawaii" dvd gets slightly better (4.5) reviews than the "That's the Way It Is" dvd (4.2), I like this one much better.
