The Shawshank Redemption (Two-Disc Special Edition)The Shawshank Redemption (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $21.99 / Used from: $4.34
Just a classic film with great acting, a great screenplay, and a feel of darkness and gloom that translates so well from a novella to the big screen.
Mulholland DriveMulholland Drive
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $5.69
Though the plot (if there is one) may be confusing, the beauty of the film lies within the acting, and the direction of David Lynch. At times it's a horror film, at other times it's a comedy, suspense, romance, and action movie all pulled into one. This does not fit into any one genre. It uses pieces of them all to bring together one of the more interesting films of all time.
Unforgiven (Two-Disc Special Edition)Unforgiven (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $20.99 / Used from: $2.94
Unforgiven is probaly one of the darkest westerns to ever come out. Clint Eastwoods dark, brooding film follows a former "collector" out to get one more score. Eastwood plays his character very well in this film and Gene Hackman gives a marvelous performance as the coniving sheriff.
NashvilleNashville
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $3.73
The late Robert Altman had many hit and misses throughout his career as a director. One of his most critical hits was 'Nashville' in which the ensemble cast is remarkable. It's not so much about the story but about the people and there reactions to each other and the events going on around them. Masterful film.
On the Waterfront (Special Edition)On the Waterfront (Special Edition)
Buy new: $14.49 / Used from: $10.00
Brando's performance in my opinion is the greatest performance of all time from the greatest actor of all time. The story may seem out of date but the pure beauty of the acting is a reason this film remains a classic.
Last Tango in ParisLast Tango in Paris
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $3.89
Once again the great Marlon Brando brings his best to this film that may be a little racy at times, but the scene in which Marlon talks to his deceased wife is an unforgettable scene that only Brando could pull off with so much energy.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's NestOne Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $5.40
Jack Nicholson is also a great actor in his own right and no performance of his shows it more then the one in this film. This is masterfully directed and just an unforgettable film.
Once Upon a Time in the WestOnce Upon a Time in the West
Buy new: $6.49 / Used from: $2.50
The ultimate western. Sergio Leone is the master of the spaghetti western and he gets it all right in this one. It's a film that is visually stunning, sometimes grim in light and Henry Fonda's turn as a villian should be noted. Also the score of the film is one of the best.
In AmericaIn America
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $0.25
One of the most touching films I've ever seen from the great Irish director Jim Sheridan. An Irish family moves to America leaving behind the memories of there dead son. A miracle of a film which will touch your heart.
Dear America - Letters Home from VietnamDear America - Letters Home from Vietnam
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $19.99
The best documentary I've ever seen told through the letters of Vietnam soldiers during the war.
Breaking the WavesBreaking the Waves
Buy used from: $24.89
Powerful, thought provoking film with an ending that is truly unforgettable and will make you think about what was right and what was wrong.
