VERY SCARY MOVIES
By an Amazon.com customer
Ju-on (The Grudge)Ju-on (The Grudge)
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $1.53
The American release of The Grudge was based on this original Japanese movie. The strangeness of the Asian setting and the excellent use of sound effects and actors who know how to emote desperate fear makes this a chilling version of the film. Dubbed with an English language option. This is very scary, without being very bloody.
The Midnight Meat TrainThe Midnight Meat Train
Buy new: $15.99 / Used from: $2.52
An original movie adaptation of a horror story by Clive Barker. A photographer discovers that a train traveling the subway system at midnight holds a terrifying secret. This is a very scary film, shocking and bloody at times, but has a style and a story that actually makes you care about the characters and the victims. Almost like a modern but classy treatment of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Dead Silence (Unrated Widescreen Edition)Dead Silence (Unrated Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $0.74
If you feel that there's something disturbing about ventriloquists and their creepy dummies, this film will heighten your feelings to absolute horror. This is a combo murder mystery and horror story with a VERY twisted ending that is as shocking as it is impossible. You will either love this or hate it. I loved the chilling feel of it, so I'm recommending it.
House on Haunted HillHouse on Haunted Hill
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $0.39
I loved this. It's like walking into a haunted house in a carnival but one that you can't leave. The frightening things that happen in this house will make you jump. It's thrilling and scary and not too bloody. A group of people are offered a million dollars to spend one night locked inside a former mental hospital with a bloody past.
Trilogy of TerrorTrilogy of Terror
Buy new: $15.99 / Used from: $10.00
Rarely would I ever suggest buying a DVD that contains multiple stories just for one of the stories on it. But this release from 1975 is the exception. Buy this DVD. The third tale of the trilogy, a segement titled "Amelia", is shocking, scary, horrifying and creepy, riviling some of the best horror in today's theaters. You WILL remember it for a long time.
Hellraiser - BloodlineHellraiser - Bloodline
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $3.39
Why did I include this in my list? Because the vile demon Pinhead meets his end in it. And I really wanted to see that. This sadomasochistc series has little going for it, but this one, the final version actually tells an entertaining story about the rise and fall of an evil being who needs to be destroyed. Good defeats evil in the end.
The Thing (Collector's Edition)The Thing (Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $4.93
On an isolated research base in the arctic surrounded by miles of snow and mountains of ice the research team discovers there's an ancient alien space craft buried in the ice under them, and an alien life form on board that they unfortunately decide to thaw out. The special effects of the alien coming to life and infecting and absorbing the research team are astounding.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Collector's Edition)Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.91
This horror film feeds you with hyper-paranoia and makes you look over your shoulder as you watch it. Alien spores begin growing on earth, producing large pods with stem-like veins that creep into your body as you sleep, draining your insides out, creating a perfect replica that has a sort of hive mentality but retains memories of the original. No one is who they seem to be. No one can be trusted.
