Underworld (Widescreen Special Edition)Underworld (Widescreen Special Edition)
Buy new: $5.49 / Used from: $1.17
The original movie that started it all, introducing the story of Selene -- a 600 year old vampire known as a Death Dealer: a hunter of Lycans (werewolves) -- and Michael, the young man caught in the complex politics of the Underworld due to his ancient bloodlines.
Underworld (Unrated Extended Cut)Underworld (Unrated Extended Cut)
Buy used from: $1.99
The director's cut of the original movie, this version features more than 12 minutes of never-before-seen footage. Michael and Selene's relationship is given better development, we finally learn about Michael's past, and the fight scenes are longer and more satisfying -- as well as a sexy subplot featuring the marvellously conniving Erika.
UnderworldUnderworld by Various Artists
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $2.48
The soundtrack to the original film, and the best of the soundtracks. Danny Lohner of Nine Inch Nails either wrote or mixed most of the songs on this soundtrack, making a unique blend of metal, rock, electronica, instrumental and ballad tracks only available on this album.
UnderworldUnderworld
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.47
The score to the movie. Haslinger effectively created a moody theme for the film while not creating anything truly amazing or stand-out. The orchestration is somewhat cliched, though the theme "Eternity and a Day" is an essential for any "Underworld" fan.
Underworld: Book 1 (Underworld (Pocket Star Books)) (Bk. 1)Underworld: Book 1 (Underworld (Pocket Star Books)) (Bk. 1) by Greg Cox
Buy used from: $19.46
Greg Cox is the author of every "Underworld" novel, and he begins with the novelization of the film. The book is longer, more complex, and features more character development than is shown in the movie. Cox's simple prose is easy to read, and the story is more developed than in either the film or the director's cut.
Underworld - Evolution (Widescreen Special Edition)Underworld - Evolution (Widescreen Special Edition)
Buy new: $5.49 / Used from: $1.98
The sequel to the original movie, continuing the saga of Selene and Michael as they adjust to Michael's hybrid powers. However, when Marcus begins to chase the two questions are raised about Selene's past, as well as the past of the Corvinus line -- questions that will influence the future of the Underworld.
Underworld: EvolutionUnderworld: Evolution
Buy new: $15.99 / Used from: $5.25
The follow-up to the original soundtrack, Underworld: Evolution features a more eclectic mixture of rock while losing the uniqueness of the original soundtrack. Nevertheless, the "Evolution" soundtrack features many new mixes and tracks that are mixed together to create a fairly successful soundtrack to the film.
Underworld: EvolutionUnderworld: Evolution by Marco Beltrami
Buy new: $15.99 / Used from: $11.39
This score to the movie succeeds where Haslinger's score failed, in creating more unique orchestrations fitting the movie it created. Although it is missing the essential "Eternity and a Day" theme, Beltrami's score is worthy of any collection. Also features two bonus tracks: "Something I Could Never Have" by Flyleaf and "Cover the Sky" by cEvin kEy.
Evolution (Underworld)Evolution (Underworld) by Greg Cox
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01
The novelization of the second film, Greg Cox again does a fine job of characterization and including little details from the original script that didn't make it into the final cut of the movie.
Underworld: Rise of the LycansUnderworld: Rise of the Lycans
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $4.04
The third installment to the Underworld saga, "Rise of the Lycans" is the prequel that tells the story of Lucian and Victor -- the sweeping history and tragedy make it perhaps the most epic of the three films.
Underworld: Rise of the LycansUnderworld: Rise of the Lycans by Original Soundtrack
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $6.78
The soundtrack to the third movie. Nearly every track is a remix you can't find anywhere else, making this a darkly original work that is as good as or even better than the original Underworld soundtrack album.
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans ScoreUnderworld: Rise of the Lycans Score
Buy new: $18.98 / Used from: $11.60
The score to the third movie. Paul Haslinger from the original score was brought back to again create a fairly lackluster score, despite some shining moments sprinkled throughout the album.
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (Underworld (Pocket Star Books))Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (Underworld (Pocket Star Books)) by Greg Cox
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.57
The novelization to the third movie, currently in theatres, "Rise of the Lycans" is arguably the best of Cox's efforts in the Underworld universe as he portrays the passionately tragic affair of Lucian and Sonja, even succeeding in making Viktor a somewhat sympathetic character.
The Complete UnderworldThe Complete Underworld by Danny McBride
Buy new: $16.49 / Used from: $2.54
A guide to the films and the universe -- an enjoyable addition to your collection but not necessarily a must-have. "Complete Underworld" reads something like the book version of a DVD special feature, a fun little extra.
Blood Enemy (Underworld, Book 2)Blood Enemy (Underworld, Book 2) by Greg Cox
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.01
"Blood Enemy" is an original novel that Cox set in the Underworld universe. Although it's been made superflous by the addition of "Rise of the Lycans," it was a good novel that told of Lucian's first struggles against the vampires. It also features a subplot of a Selene prequel of sorts to the original film.
