![]() | Underworld - Evolution (Widescreen Special Edition)
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $1.67 The director has sought to make a sequel that doesn't skimp on chapters of history or buckets of blood. What this means is: More Kate in leather! More cheesy slo-mo leaps from tall buildings! More vamps with guns! More... Speedman! In the sequel to Beckinsale's breakout movie, we get a Dark Ages werewolf vs. vampire battle, and a glimpse of Corvinus, the father of both species!

![]() | 16 Blocks (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $0.47 Willis is in the middle of his third or fourth renaissance, though he can't seem to shake these cop roles. And that 'stache should go. In this its up to the mighty Mos Def to keep things snapping and watching him and Willis motor-mouthing their way through action hero dialogue does give it a certain appeal. Plus the addition of the always-good David Morse...

![]() | Inside Man (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $0.73 Does Spike Lee have the restraint to pull off a straight-up thriller? In his first true commercial hit, it would have been impossible to dull this one down. But, uh, isn't the title kind of a spoiler in and of itself?
|
![]() | Mission Impossible III (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $0.28 No real offense meant to Mr. Cruise, but there's something karmic in the notion that "Over the Hedge" made more money than M:I:3 in the States.

![]() | Poseidon (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $24.49 / Used from: $0.88 What happened here? This was supposed to be my guilty pleasure movie of the summer. But then, it was just awful. I suggest that you not waste your money on this one.

![]() | The Fast and the Furious - Tokyo Drift (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $2.09 First Vin Diesel abandoned this franchise, and now Paul Walker? What does it say when you can't even get Paul Walker to sign to your movie? Luckily the addition of director Lin (Better Luck Tomorrow) and the underground appeal of drift racing (relatively speaking, it's as big as NASCAR, except illegal) injects a little bit of adrenaline into this mess, but not much.

![]() | Superman Returns (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $24.49 / Used from: $0.01 The poster for this movie should be a revolving door, since so many directors and stars came and went. After a Scarlett O'Hara-style search, newcomer Routh was picked to fill out the red and blue tights, and Bosworth trumped a number of other actresses for the role of Lois Lane. Besides this movies is so loaded with themes, we don't feel the need to point them out.

![]() | Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $25.49 / Used from: $1.98 All the major players are back -- including director Verbinski and the original screenwriters -- and Disney took a cue from Lord of the Rings and shot back-to-back sequels (the final arrives in May). It's interesting to note this is one of the few times in the history of movie marketing that a romance storyline has been played down and taken a back seat (rightly) to Cap'n Jack.

![]() | Miami Vice (Unrated Director's Cut)
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $0.01 This film's success has everything to do with the critic-proof Michael Mann's ability to turn a project gone wild into a completed film (weather, danger, and diva fever reportedly plagued the production). With all the TV-to-Film movies appearing on the scene I can honestly say that none of them will be as serious and cool as this one.

![]() | Crank (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $1.50 May Jason Statham never pull a Jet Li and retire from doing action movies. His latest feels like a hot fix of Speed and Run Lola Run. Writer-director Mark Neveldine is a stunt/visual effects guy, so you can only imagine that he uses Statham's endurance and the streets of LA to his best advantage. Will we see more of Chev Chelios? I'm not saying...

![]() | Zoom - Academy for Superheroes
Buy new: $14.94 / Used from: $1.22 Kinda like a live-action version of The Incredibles with a helping of Sky High mixed in, Zoom also sounds similar to a certain mutant-y serial over on the Fox lot. Fox actually sued Sony for copyright infringement (obvious) and unfair competition, as Sony originally schedule Zoom for release two weeks before X-Men 3.
|
![]() | Flyboys (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $2.75 Oracle founder Larry Ellison, also known as the ninth richest person in the world, ponied up nearly half of the film's $60 million budget. Ellison's attention was focused on the project by his son, David, a trick pilot who stars in the film. This leaves the film without any real actors in the cast, it shows.

![]() | Jet Li's Fearless (Unrated Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $1.44 Can it be that Fearless is Jet Li's last action movie? The star wants to move away from the genre, but will his fans accept him as anything but an exceptional being. (I mean, do you want to see Jet Li as an aging cop or depressed dad?) Ronny Yu directs, and did you know he ditched Snakes on a Plane for this?
|
![]() | The Marine (Unrated Edition)
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $1.09 This movies basically traffics in thoughts of Rambo, Walking Tall, Falling Down, Marky Mark, has become one of most popular clips of the month ...
|
![]() | Alex Rider - Operation Stormbreaker (Widescreen Edition)
Buy used from: $19.90 Anthony Horowitz adapts his own popular novel for director Sax (White Noise). But unfortunately this is a bonafide flop.
|
![]() | Casino Royale (2-Disc Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $1.94 After an exhaustive, dramatic, borderline-annoying search for the new Bond, the announcement of Daniel Craig as the successor was rather ... anticlimactic. Craig of course made matters worse for himself by arriving for the movie's worldwide press day via military boat ... wearing a life preserver. However, his smoldering physicality has won me over and re-engaged the franchise yet again.
