for me, this is the ultimate film about empowerment. de havilland is in rare form and hopkins, clift and richardson are giving their all in their roles. plus, it's a beautiful film to look at and listen to as well.

i love 'klute' beccause it has a new york city captured that doesn't exist anymore. it's the same new york city that scorsese brings out in 'taxi driver'--the unsafe, gritty, dirty, heartless new york with an 8th avenue on fire with neon and whores.

evrey so often there is a debut performance that shocks you. this film has two from melanie lynskey and kate winslet as pauline and juliet. now winslet may slip every once in a while, but she shown she still has the goods. lynskey on the other hand hasn't been so lucky.

i tend to stay away from gay-themed films unless they're films like this. gayness is thrust in your face--per se. and i honestly don't remember this film being hyped to no end like brokeback mountain.

this is a film that is like 'howards end' for me. it would tell me a lot about the problems in british culture if i could read it properly. as it stands, it is a steamy, sexy story, well written and beautifully acted.
