Nikon F4 Camera BodyNikon F4 Camera Body
The Nikon F4 is the last of the legendary Nikon F pro cameras to use dials and knobs instead of buttons and menus! This makes it one of the most intuitive advanced cameras ever made. While it works with newer autofocus (AF-S) lens, focusing isn't as fast as on more recent cameras (and VR doesn't function); however, no other Nikon F series body offers such complete support of older manual Nikkors.
Nikon F 5 - SLR camera - 35mm - body only - blackNikon F 5 - SLR camera - 35mm - body only - black

While the very compact and light N75 will give you exceptional results, a used F5 -- one of the best pro cameras ever made -- can be owned used for only around $500. What a deal for a classic! Works with the latest VR AF-S lenses.
Nikon FM2 Black BodyNikon FM2 Black Body
Buy used from: $80.00
Here's another favorite of mine: the Nikon FM2, which often was used as a backup body by pros and had a reputation for reliability and durability. It featured a top shutter speed of an unprecedented 1/4000th second, and is operable without batteries (minus the exposure meter).
Nikon F 100 - SLR camera - 35mm - body only - blackNikon F 100 - SLR camera - 35mm - body only - black
Buy new: $1,799.00 / Used from: $275.00
The F100 has much of the F5 capabilities with less bulk (and ruggedness)-- all at a fabulous price.
Nikon N75 35mm SLR Camera (Body Only)Nikon N75 35mm SLR Camera (Body Only)
Buy used from: $59.99
At a price point of under $100, this is an incredible value for a starter camera loaded with advanced features, plus support for the latest AF-S and VR lenses. Highly recommended if you're a beginner but want something to grow with, or desire a competent, very light and compact camera for travel.
Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR CamerasNikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $124.95 / Used from: $105.00
This is as sharp a lens as you'll find (except for softness wide open), and a steal for around $100. Makes a great lens for shooting candids in low interior lighting. Team this with the N75 for a low-cost, extremely compact system for superior images.
Nikon 35-70mm f/2.8D AF Zoom Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR CamerasNikon 35-70mm f/2.8D AF Zoom Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy used from: $375.00
This classic nikkor stays fixed at f2.8 its entire zoom range and is exceptionally sharp. A bargain on the used market. This lens, plus the two that follow, use to be in every Pro's camera bag in the film days, and produced many exceptional photos.
Nikon Zoom Super Wide Angle 20-35mm f/2.8 D-IF Aspherical Autofocus LensNikon Zoom Super Wide Angle 20-35mm f/2.8 D-IF Aspherical Autofocus Lens
Another great classic optic that stills stands up well against modern designs for a fraction of the cost on the used market. It is very sharp across the zoom range at all aperatures, and has less distortion (plus is more compact) than the latest Nikon pro wide zooms. One of my all-time favorites, it spends a lot of time on my D700.
Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8D ED AF Zoom Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR CamerasNikon 80-200mm f/2.8D ED AF Zoom Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $1,090.50 / Used from: $875.00
This zoom is razor sharp across the zoom range, including wide open, plus is built like a tank. Also works great with the superb 1.4x Nikon teleconverter for even more versatility. This is one of Nikon's sharpest lenses of all times.

Buy new: $469.00 / Used from: $399.95
This is another very sharp pro-grade Nikkor lens that I was able to pick up used for $269. Wonderfully sharp across the entire field, even wide open, this all-metal macro lense also makes a great portrait lense on a DX-sensor digital SLR.
Nikon TC-14E II (1.4x) Teleconverter AF-S for Nikon Digital SLR CamerasNikon TC-14E II (1.4x) Teleconverter AF-S for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras
Buy new: $404.97
"Give your 80-200mm f2.8 zoom a 1.4x focal length increase (to 280mm) without noticeable image degradation. A lower-cost alternative that is reportedly very sharp is the Kenko PRO 1.4x teleconverter."
Nikon 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF Autofocus Nikkor Zoom LensNikon 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED IF Autofocus Nikkor Zoom Lens
This 28-200mm (G version) takes respectable images over a very useful zoom range for film (full-frame) photography, plus offers near macro close focusing. Amazingly tiny and light, too. Highly recommended for a low-cost, versatile traveling lens.
