One of the few movies that can make me misty. Teacher Anne Sullivan is rewarded for her determination in teaching the blind/deaf/mute Helen Keller to communicate. Sounds tedious but it's VERY interesting, exciting and a joy.
Bonnie and ClydeBonnie and Clyde
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $3.48
A controversial and extremely influential breakthrough film. Shook up the movie world in 1967. Fine acting, exciting direction, dramatic and VERY funny. Started Gene Wilder's advance to stardom. Several acting Oscar noms.

Pretty good detective 'film noir' of the 70's.
THE LEFT HANDED GUNTHE LEFT HANDED GUN
Buy used from: $1.15
A telling of the Billy The Kid saga, an early major role for Paul Newman.
Alice's RestaurantAlice's Restaurant

A film very relevant to the sixties. The 20-minute sequence of hippie Arlo's arrest is on my Listmania: Favorite Scenes From The Movies(though it does end in a sophomoric rant)....so we know where Sean gets it. Ending is melodrama.
The Missouri BreaksThe Missouri Breaks
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $3.36
Pairing of two major stars Jack Nicholson and Brando strangely misfires, but it's still an interesting film. Brando's role is bizarre. Musical theme in on my Listmania: Best All-Time Movie/TV Music Themes
The ChaseThe Chase
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $5.41
Explosive (though a bit heavy-handed)film set in a small southern town. Brando is an entertaining sheriff. Good cast including a young Robert Duvall, a very young Robert Redford, and a very hot Janice Rule!
Little Big ManLittle Big Man
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $7.68
A 1969 western epic. It's been a while but I recall that I found many scenes too repeatedly cynical....it becomes a one-note samba. Still interesting though.

Pretty routine fare for Penn. A conventional suspense movie/thriller, not particularly 'auteurish' for a director like Penn. But it's a reasonably good time if you like that kind of movie.
