1872 - ugh, another George Eliot title? i'm clearly a glutton for punishment (then again, i might read neither of them ... or maybe, just maybe, i'll read and LIKE both of them [maybe])

1888 - shouldn't this be FRENCH? anyway, at least it was recommended by *How to Read Novels Like a Professor*, which gives me some hope that i'll like it, but do i read this Hardy novel or the one that a friend of mine considers his favorite novel of all time?
