Indian-American lesbian struggles between her desire to help her infertile sister by being a surrogate, her lover who isn't sure about raising a child, her traditional family, and herself. Good story, but the main chracter was emotionless most of the time. Family comes to terms with love. Nice touch with the henna-painting connection between the women characters.

Story of boarding school "love" through a naive new girls eyes. Rebelious, enlightened Polly is sharing sexual awakenings with another student, Tori. When they are discovered, Tori ends the affair. Polly descends into a defiant attempt to retieve Tori's affection. Laced with the impossible juxta of immaturity and literature as a muse.

OK, NOT a great film, but, I did like the building tension of attraction, change, and discovery. I wish the acting had been better, the concept is great. The over-done music douced the final love scene. Commentary disc is revealing, but, is too often filled with self-entertaining chatter. Conn and lead Todd are revealed to have had a "behind the scenes" affair.

In a blue collar world, Julie breaks out and away by moving into the academic world. Resentment and alienation by friends and seperation from husband follow. When her attraction to her best friend emerges, they act on their feelings; alienation deepens, Julie handles it, the best friend can't. Courtney Love? hmmm... Lili Taylor is great!

The lesbian relationship the German/French Jewish main character experiences is incidental to the stark and realistic depiction of the Nazi's invading France. Imagine being Jewish AND lesbian at such a time in Eurpoe. Not the best quality filming, but that adds to the gritty realism and period depiction. The story is great. SUBTITLES.

Don't let the cover photo fool you; a brooding movie set in chilly New England. The characters are believable, so is the family situation and issues between the main characters; longshore (wo)man Casey stands up to her upper class family for her lover Alex. Great chemistry, the Mother is deliciously cold and stubborn, and the "buddy" who visits is the perfect counter to the gloomy mood.

A private detective tries to unravel the murder of a young teenaged poet and finds a trail of sex and violence. She has a steamy affair with the girls alluring and distant literatue professor (sexy Kelly McGillis). The emerging dark connections bring the answer to the murder to a surprising conclusion.

An obsessed woman, who wants to possess the victims life through fantasy and control, uses seduction as one more way to get inside of the woman she is obsessed with. Obsession turned lethal. One sexy scene.

This movie played it too safe, and missed on what could have been juicy and thrilling. Most of the focus is on the "straight" relationships, and there wasn't a lot of chemistry otherwise. It was a mindless fun romp though, just don't expect anything to deep, emotionally, or sexually stimulating.

Some cute and humerous scenes save it, kind of. Not for the "worst" lesbian film list, just a bit shallow, glib, and not entirely inspiring. Too cutesy, but, sometimes this kind of lightness is a relief.

Cute, but a few too many problems to fully enjoy. The basketball coach is a dork, and the housewife is overweight and frumpish. The love scenes were awkward, un-sexy. Naked basketball playing? Uhh, no. What worked was the falling in love between women thing, their feelings and obsticles, their developing love is sweet. The ending was pretty over the top and unrealistic though.

Film noir about an affair between a feminine/handsome artist and a cabaret singer - who maintains that it is only a temporary tryst. Yet as they continue, the jealous ex-male-lover threatens them both. Sometimes slow, sparse of diologue, but sometimes sexy and sultry and worth a watch.

A series of flashbacks based on a true account of a Sergeant stationed in Northern Ireland hired to sniff out lesbians in the Army. Her own feeligs toward women create personal conflict, suspision, and eventually lead to her dismissal on trumped up charges. A bit disjointed, but stay with the back and forth memory flashs and this is pretty interesting and overall worth a watch.

Set in a conservative Southern town; when an AIDS hospice opens up, the local homophobes bristle, divideing the community. Unhappily married Alex, begins to have second thoughts about her orientation, then embarks on a lesbian romance. Not the best acting, but a worthwhile "indie" type rainy day watch. Good director/actress interviews.

A comic-book artist (Affleck) who falls in love with a lesbian (Adams) and actually gets his wish that she love him, too. Their relationship is attacked by his business partner, and undone by his own self-doubts. Themes of jealousy, deceit, and the high price of growing up enough to truly care for someone make this a satisfying movie.

Fairly unsubstantial, however, very funny in spots. In spite of the abounding stereotypes and cheesy acting. A CHeerleader is hit with a surprise "intervention" from her parents and friends, who accuse her of being a lesbian - which had never entered her mind - and is sent to a reprogramming camp - where she THEN falls in love with a tough-talking but vulnerable girl.

First American film to show a lesbian on the screen, although if I hadn't already known, I'm not sure I would have picked up on that. Brothel set in 1930's New Orleans, steamy characters. Barbara Stanwyck steals the picture away as Jo the lesbian Madame, angry over her unrequited passion for one of the prositutes. Fonda is great. This is dated, but the characters intertwining lives are electric.

Controversial, sexy and funny. Cheryl, a black lesbian working as a clerk in a video store, making a documentary about Fae Richards, an obscure black actress from the 1930's; she discovers Richards (known popularly as "the Watermelon Woman") had a white lesbian lover. Parallel: Cheryl falls in love with a cute white customer at the video store. Complexities of race and sex.

In Peach, Lucy Lawless is a sexy tow truck driver attracted to a young Maori woman. In A Bitter Song (Lucy's first film role!), she plays a kind nurse who helps a troubled young girl. These two short films helped introduce Lucy to the world before she became Xena.
