![]() | Human Comedy [VHS]
Buy used from: $19.99 A sentimental drama about a family that endures the hardships of war, Van has a small part with a big impact. This is a quintessential Van Johnson movie; he plays a soldier that everyone loves with a winning smile.

![]() | Somewhere I'll Find You [VHS]
Buy used from: $6.35 Van has a very small, uncredited part, as guess what? A soldier. I don't really remember him in this movie.
![]() | MGM: When the Lion Roars
Buy new: $11.15 / Used from: $10.25 Van does a bit of commentary for this documentary, particularly on parts two and three. He discusses the movie Battleground and the demise of MGM.
![]() | Two Girls & A Sailor [VHS]
Buy used from: $5.46 Here as a sailor, a rich man with an eye for beauty, Two Girls and a Sailor is the first time Van paired up with June Allyson. They were a great team, and this movie catipulted both of them to stardom. No wonder. They're great.
![]() | Till the Clouds Roll By (Remastered Edition)
Buy used from: $1.00 Van has a small cameo with Lucille Bremer in this movie. It is the first time I ever saw him singing and dancing. He isn't Fred Astaire, but he is much more light on his feet than you would expect.
![]() | Miracle in the Rain
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $6.68 Again as a soldier in a devestating and beautiful movie, Van is the ideal man, the guy that all of the women at home were waiting for to come home. He is sweet and romantic.
![]() | Going Hollywood: The War Years
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $5.99 Van narrates this documentary, and rightfully so. His persona played a big part during the war. He was unable to enlist because of a car accident that left him with a plate in his head, but that left him to remind all the girls at home how wonderful the men fighting the war were.
![]() | A Guy Named Joe [VHS]
Buy used from: $9.89 Can you believe he's a soldier again in this movie? This movie really cemented his fame; it was during the filming that he had his big car accident. Girls felt sorry for him and adored him for being so strong through it all.
![]() | Van Johnson: MGMÂs Golden Boy (Hollywood Legends Series) by Ronald L. Davis
Buy new: $21.90 / Used from: $7.41 Really the only biography available about him, this book tries hard to convince us that Van is gay, but I am not convinced. Still, it is a good source for information.
![]() | The End of the Affair
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $2.20 He is outshined by his co-star but it is still worth watching.
![]() | Battleground
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $3.38 An excellent movie with Van as comic relief. He's a standout, and certainly the star of the movie.
![]() | The Purple Rose of Cairo
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $5.68 He plays a character in the movie of this film. An appropriate casting choice, since he was indeed part of the classic film era. He doesn't have much to do, but it is nice to see him.
![]() | Madame Curie
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $12.97 His appearance is teeny tiny; he plays a reporter who asks Madame Curie for a story about herself. He is fresh faced and youthful.
![]() | The Caine Mutiny (Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $17.49 / Used from: $9.96 He plays an average sailor, not a scholarly man or an overly accomplished person. His character makes a big decision that changes the course of the film, so we get to see a lot of him. He's in the military again but he isn't falling in love or anything; it is a nice change of pace.
![]() | Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo
Buy new: $15.49 / Used from: $11.91 He's the main character and so baby-faced. The story is really exciting and it is interesting to watch Van's character transition from before battle to after.
![]() | Go For Broke!
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $3.58 Another good war movie. Van is the star of the show as far as the titles go, but his Japanese co-stars are the ones who really shine. He gets a few good scenes in though, including a few funny ones with women overseas.
![]() | Brigadoon
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $9.05 A chance to see Van in a musical, singing, dancing and being cynical. It is a good part for him, but not a good movie. It is kind of strange seeing him dance with Gene Kelly; he comes off a bit clunky in comparison. But my eye still goes to him first.
![]() | Weekend at the Waldorf [VHS]
Buy used from: $23.94 An entertaining movie but hardly top notch, Van is again a soldier. His character isn't completely heartbreaking, but he has moments where he draws true sympathy.
![]() | Easy to Wed [VHS]
Buy used from: $6.96 A remake of Libeled Lady, Van co-stars with his real-life friend Keenan Wynn. Van is great at reacting, and if you watch him, he is constantly doing something even when he's in the background.
