Absolutely worth the eighty bucks. The 400 Blows is a masterpiece, of course, but also check out the superb Stolen Kisses.

British Hitchcock is the best Hitchcock! The 39 Steps is a classic comic thriller, and it hints at the 'wrong man' theme Hitchcock would later explore in greater detail in 1959's North by Northwest.

This movie is solely responsible for making me want to become a ballerina.

Godard always tended to borrow heavily from the crime genre, which is fully evident in Band of Outsiders. It's the tale of two petty thieves and a lonely, melancholy schoolgirl, who fill their days dancing in cafes and racing through the Louvre. It's a classic of the New Wave, and one of my personal favorites.

Contains the best kiss ever committed to celluloid.

Possibly my favorite film of the studio era, and certainly Lake's best role. The scene where she meets McCrea in the diner is priceless. 'Get me ham and eggs before I bite you!'

Romantic comedy done right.

This movie just makes me happy. Maybe it's not one of Hitchcock's deeper, psychologically-twisted films, but it's still a hell of a watch.

Mmm, Jean Renoir! My personal favorite here is French Can Can, but Elena and Her Men is also great.

Oh, man, is this a trip! It's sad, funny, and crazy, all at the same time. Big Edie is hilarious, and Little Edie could teach a philosophy class.
