While DVD authoring is possible in Premiere Pro, using Encore will give you tools only the big studios used to have.

TIP: Add it to a Sony MiniDisc recorder (used from eBay) and you'll have a great back-up for audio capture.

Excellent for chroma-key effects work. If you're on a budget, use Keylight which comes with Premiere Pro 2.0. But if you can afford it, it's the best software out for chroma.

Buy used from: $1.57 The perfect marriage of two great programs. I didn't add Photoshop to the list only because most of the compositing effects in this book can be accomplished as easily with something like Paint Shop Pro (and for much less $$).
