This was the first authorized book and a great place to start if you would like to learn more about this amazing epic of human survival. It's not fictionalized at any point and is very detailed, due to the fact that the author conducted interviews with the survivors and their families during the writing of Alive. This edition also includes photos and maps.

Partially fictionalized storyline based on the book; some names have been changed, most notably Marcelo Perez (played by Vincent Spano), who was captain of the rugby team. Film opens and ends with narration by John Malkovich (Awesome!), as aged survivor Carlitos Páez. This dvd also includes the documentary Alive: 20 Years Later which has interviews with some survivors and visits to the film set.

WOW! This documentary has interviews with ALL of the survivors interspersed with short dramatic scenes of actors portraying related events. I was especially moved to hear from Javier Methol, who lost his wife in the tragedy. This dvd is in Spanish, but there are subtitles available. In my opinion, this is the best documentary material available on the Andes survivors.

This is the unauthorized book that the unauthorized film Survive was based on. Again, the focus here is the eating of human flesh.

Yet another sensationalist book once again focusing on the cannibalism that occurred on the mountain.

Unfortunately I don't own this book yet so I can't review it, but it was written by Carlos Paez Vilaro, the father of the youngest of the 16 survivors (Carlitos Paez).
