Buy new: $24.80 / Used from: $3.17 I love this book. Maybe I was afraid of Virginia Woolf for too many years. Maybe what makes reviewers say this novel is unlike her other books is why I like it. But the language, the characters, the symbols and imagery are perfect. I relate to the tension between being alone and separate and being with other people.

Buy new: $12.89 / Used from: $2.20 I enjoy all of Barbara Tuchman's books (except The First Salute) and used to buy them as they were published. This is my favorite. I also recommend The Proud Tower, The March of Folly, and The Guns of August.

Wonderful style, great narrative devices, imagery and characters. And detailed historical and geographical setting is what it's really about.
