Year: 480 BC Event: The Battle of Thermopylae Although only roughly 100% accurate, 300 gets it point across and allows us to see the true military force of the spartans. (plus theres some awesome action scenes too)

Year: 73 BC - 71 BC Event: Gladiator Slave Revolt, leading to the Third Servile War Great film dipicting Spartacus leading the slaves to rebel against Rome

Year: Around 6 BC - AD 36 Event: The story of Ben-Hur and his interactions with Jesus Christ and Roman culture. Also shows a great view at the Roman chariot races.

Year: 37-41 Event: The rule of Emperor Caligula This movie shows us the true pleasures of what it's like to be a kinky Roman Emperor and do whatever (or whoever) you damn well please.

Year: Around 500 Event: Arthur fights against invading Anglo-Saxons We also see the downfall of Rome in this underrated film. Although much may not be historically accurate, the idea is there.
