This is a priceless movie that is both fun to watch and portray some great values. Seven hired guns who go over to Mexico to protect a small village from bandits. They’re unsatisfied with the type of life they’ve been living, drifting aimlessly about. So in a way of redemption they take on this job of protecting the villagers and helping them live more meaningful lives or raising their families.

Robert Redford is a confederate renegade who settles deep in the Indian country of the Rockies. He ends up having an Indian wife he did not bargain for and taking care of a boy whose family got massacred by the Indians. His seemingly idyllic life comes to a halt when a minister from a rescue party convinces him to help stranded Christians and desecrate Crows’ burial grounds.

Great story of a family whose lives become intertwined with the Native Americans as they head West.

This is a Czech spaghetti Western with clever dialogues as well as with some very good social criticism of consumer society. The good guy, Joe lines up against the bad guys, the Badman brothers in the defense of the common good. But as it often goes in our Western world, the common good is where the money is, in which case we don’t mind tolerating the bad guys. Brilliant and funny.
