one of my very favorites - dry british humor at it's best

one of the reasons to love the movie is the soundtrack. the music sounds like the sea and is amongst my favorite soundtracks ever.

greer garson and ronald coleman. an old fashioned romance perfect for valentine's viewing. one of the rare cases of a movie being better than the book. a young soldier in WWI is shell-shocked. a beautiful young actress takes him under her wing and helps him to heal. then comes tragedy and amnesia and a happy ending - what more could you want?!

many of her books have a scottish setting and these are often my favorites. stevenson always gets you caught up in her characters and her descriptions of the english or scottish countryside. julia harburn travels to scotland to meet her unknown uncle, escaping her controlling, self-interested fiance.

the music from the movie is really wonderful. has the beautifully haunting 'when you taught me how to dance'.

graham wrote about 13 poldark novels. i own them all and reread them every few years. they contain vivid descriptions of the inventions and history of the time. But mostly you get the love story between ross and demelza, characters you will never forget.

we love this children's picture book. the colors, the british feel of the text, the gentility of the story, as humphrey drags his favorite things round the house to find the spot he can feel most comfy...all make for a delightful book that both child and parent will want to read again and again.

tey wrote her books a long time ago, and yet they have the feel of a contemporary mystery writer. she reminds me a bit of deborah crombie (or vice-versa). an inspector on vacation in scotland hears a man's dying words on a train and travels to the hebridean islands to unravel his cryptic words about the 'singing sands'.

i love this book! you get text written by famous scots about their favorite places in scotland, with pictures of those places, that are breathtakingly photographed by andy hall - a perfect combination!

miss pink is an older woman who is an experienced rock climber. this was a good mystery with details about climbing the stacks in scotland, which were very interesting. a very satisfying mystery.

the detail in barklem's illustrations is unequaled. she made up wonderful stories about old english village life and peopled her stories with mice living inside trees. we have all the books and each one is a gem.

this man composed one of the most beautiful melodies in existence. it is haunting and lovely, and so many people loved it, we now have this soundtrack to a movie version of jane eyre that wasn't even as well-known as many others.

this is a book that makes you sigh upon remembering it. there is such beauty in the writing, in the lilt of the welsh feel of each sentence. you just have to pick it up and you will be captured by the first sentence. the story of this young welsh boy, son of a family of miners, will stay with you the rest of your life. i've had people thank me for recommending it to them.

i just got this book and it is wonderful. perfect armchair traveling book. his writer's voice is very engaging, interesting and comfortable. his descriptions help you to see the highlands and of course that is why you are reading the book. also has some very nice photos showing the places they traveled.

This is a great armchair travel book. Mitchell is the perfect travel writer - taking you with him without being obvious or flowery. I want to tour northern scotland, and may never get the opportunity. reading about mr. mitchell's experiences and his descriptions of his surroundings and some of the history of the places they stayed over a period of several years - is the next best thing.
