![]() | Kershaw Ken Onion Chive Pocket Knife with Speed Safe
Buy new: $28.07 / Used from: $24.99 A small pocket knife. One handed open and close. Attached to my keyring. Knives are some of the most useful tools ever invented, and you can get a very good knife (like this one) for pretty cheap.

![]() | Swiss Tech Micro-Pro XL900 9-in-1 Multi Tool with LED Flashlight
Buy new: $9.99 The light is busted on mine, but the metal tool part is on my keychain. Pliers, wire cutters and screw drivers everywhere I have my keys in a size smaller than many vehicle central locking remotes.

![]() | Swiss Tech UKTBS Utili-Key 6-in-1 Polished Stainless Steel Key Ring Multi-Tool, Gift Box
Buy new: $5.99 How can you carry small screw drivers, a tiny but workable knife blade, and a bottle opener with no more inconvenience than having another key on your keyring? This is how!
|
![]() | Leatherman 831060 Serac 1-LED Flashlight
Buy new: Too low to display Like a knife, a light is an incredibly useful and versatile tools. Leatherman makes quality things, and this is no exception. This is also on my keyring. At less than $20, it's not worth being without a light when you need one.

![]() | Swedish Firesteel- Scout Model
Buy new: $8.99 - $19.95 Carried on (you guessed it) my keyring. I actually have two keyrings - one with the pocket knife, a house key and a car key, and the other with everything else (it's not good for your ignition to have to much weight hanging from it). This is not handy as often as a knife or a light, but for $10, being able to start a fire anywhere and anytime is worth it.

![]() | LG Chocolate cell phone VERIZON vx8500
Buy used from: $99.00 You probably have a cell phone. This one is mine. I like the look, and the performance is pretty good. The touch controls are a bit finicky, however.
|
![]() | Plantronics Discovery 640E Bluetooth Headset
Buy new: $22.02 I use this with my phone and computer. The sleeve lets you recharge with a AAA battery while you carry it, which is cool. Performance is adequate. Keeps my hands free while traveling.
|
![]() | Apple iPod touch 16 GB (1st Generation) OLD MODEL
Buy new: $499.00 / Used from: $110.00 I bought this mostly as a PDA, although I enjoy the games and do actually listen to music on it as well. And watch movies. And surf the web. I love this thing!!
|
![]() | Shure SE210 Sound Isolating Earphone - Black
Buy new: $90.95 / Used from: $59.99 These are very good earphones. The sound isolation is superb. The sound quality is solid (bit lacking in bass, but the speakers are tiny, so what would you expect).

![]() | Casio Men's Solar Atomic Pathfinder Multi-Band Watch #PAW1300G-1V
Buy new: $196.95 It's a watch. A very accurate watch if you are in North America or Northwestern Europe or the British Isles or Japan, where it can sync with an atomic clock. It's also a compass. And an altimeter. It can be a barometer and a thermometer, although I don't use those much. And it's solar powered. And tough. And very water resistant. Nuff said?
|
![]() | Coyote Polar Chromatic Sunglasses - Cortez
Buy new: $64.95 I would love to get some Serengeti shades. But they are expensive, and I go through sunglasses like there's no tomorrow. These have some of the same features (polarized lenses, photochromatic lenses), and I got them for about half the price.
|
![]() | Black Nylon Trifold Wallet
Buy new: $25.99 Amazon doesn't have my wallet, but it is a black nylon trifold like this one. I find nylon much more durable than leather or other materials I've tried. I keep too much in my wallet, like most people.
|
![]() | Kershaw Ken Onion Avalanche Folding Knife with Speed Safe
Buy new: $73.97 Now we are starting into the "most of the time" items - I carry these most of the time, but not always. This knife, for instance, is too big to stick into dress slacks and go to the ballet with. But it is an excellent utility knife for most occasions.
|
![]() | Leatherman 830039 New Wave Multitool with Leather Sheath
Buy new: Too low to display Like the Kershaw avalanche, not for dress-up affairs. But one of the most useful things I own.

![]() | Apple MacBook Pro MB604LL/A 17-Inch Laptop (2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, Slot Loading SuperDrive)
Buy new: $2,199.88 / Used from: $1,800.00 Mine was loaded, two years ago when I got it. I'm a unix guy, and used linux for about 9 years before switching to OS X. I still have linux on a virtual machine on this laptop. I've not had a desktop as my primary box since forever, and I love the portability and flexibility of laptops. With me most of the time, but not always.
|
![]() | Magellan eXplorist 500 Color Handheld GPS
Just a bit too bulky to EDC, but I carry it in my backpack with me almost everywhere and almost all the time. Got maps of North America so I can actually find things.
|
![]() | Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4K 8.1MP Digital Camera with 10x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black)
Buy new: $249.95 / Used from: $175.00 Also a bit bulky for EDC. I can snap a pic with my phone in an emergency. But the Leica 10X zoom on this camera lets me take some incredible photos, and I never know when I'll get myself into a picturesque situation, so this comes with me in my backpack (which I almost always have) too.

![]() | Targus TSB082US Shield Backpack Fits up to 17-Inch Screen (Black and Red)
Well, my Targus Voyager has been discontinued, so I guess this one is close enough. My voyager fits my 17" macbook pro, has plenty of storage pockets, an insulated pocket for hot food, and a rain cover tucked into the (outside) bottom to keep everything dry in wet wheather. Only draw back is the burnt orange and black coloring. Almost EDC.
