1980. 'Excuse me stewardess, I speak jive.' OMG, I still pee my pants. The biggest of Abrahams and Zucker. And, it was the beginning of Leslie Nielsen's successfully comic film career.

American Werewolf in London Special EditionAmerican Werewolf in London Special Edition
Buy new: $15.49 / Used from: $11.23
1981. Violent and humorous. 'I see a bad moon risin'.' I once suffered from hallucinations of a dead friend that had been mauled by an alligator. He told me that by the next full moon I would turn into a ladies handbag. Eerie.
An Officer and a Gentleman (Special Collector's Edition)An Officer and a Gentleman (Special Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $3.00
1982. 'I wanna fly jets, sir.' Lou Gossett Jr. kicks the crap out of Richard Gere, but he still graduates. These guys did so many push-ups in this flick, I got tired just watching them. In the 80's, I watched this about 10 times on SelecTV. Does anyone remember SelecTV? One channel. Movies 24 hours a day.
ArthurArthur
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $1.70
1981. 'They recently had the whole country carpeted. This is naht a big place...' Dudley Moore was amazing. So many great oneliners. WTF? This needs the Widescreen Remaster treatment.

Beverly Hills Cop (Special Collector's Edition)Beverly Hills Cop (Special Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $1.70
1984. Remember when Eddie Murphy movies were good? But, I can't even look at the cover for this flick without hearing that ridiculous Axel Foley synthesized theme music. Sheesh, it was everywhere.
BigBig
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $4.44
1988. Tom Hanks did many comedies in the 80's. His first comic fantasy was SPLASH in 1984. This LITTLE film about innocence lost and innocence found, is his finest. I choke on caviar too. And I'm really BIG.
The Big ChillThe Big Chill
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $4.95
1983. Tragedy brings old friends together for some mid-life perspective. 'Sometimes you just have to let art flow over you.' I'm so old, I'm suffering from The Big Chill, right now!
Blade Runner (Four-Disc Collector's Edition)Blade Runner (Four-Disc Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $16.99 / Used from: $13.59
1982. Replicant, replicant. Wherefore art thou replicant? We didn't have a Director's Cut in the 80's. We had to view this on VHS tape with the narration. However, it was quite spectacular on the big screen. I bought the Original One Sheet from this film in the 80s. Must be worth bucks by now.
Blue Velvet (Special Edition)Blue Velvet (Special Edition)
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $5.81
1986. 'He put his disease in me.' Why are there people like Frank? When I saw this in '86 there were two little old ladies in front of me that shook their heads and clicked their tongues thru the entire film, 'Tsk, tsk, tsk.' It was priceless. Almost too odd for the 80's.
The Breakfast ClubThe Breakfast Club
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $7.38
1985. The Brat Pack. 'You think he's funny? You think this is cute? You think he's "bitchin," is that it? Let me tell you something. Look at him - he's a bum. You want to see something funny? You go visit John Bender in five years. You'll see how goddamned funny he is.' R.I.P. John Hughes & Paul Gleason. You guys RULED in the 80's!

A Christmas Story (Full-Screen Edition)A Christmas Story (Full-Screen Edition)
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $11.19
1983. Seeing as how I got a BB gun for Christmas in the 60's, this one brings a little tear to my eye. A beloved Classic.
CocktailCocktail
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $4.29
1988. Tom Cruise with a ninja sword whiskey bottle and a young Elizabeth Shue. What's not to like? Not as bad as everyone says it is. A morality tale about romance and 80's superficiality that is just as relevant today as it was back in the Me Decade. Very colorful film with some nice shots of Jamaica. Fairly good DVD, but could stand a remaster.
The Color of MoneyThe Color of Money
Buy new: $8.49 / Used from: $2.97
1986. Paul Newman as Fast Eddie Felson & Tom Cruise with a ninja sword pool cue. What's not to like? 'I saw a werewolf drinkin a pina colada at Trader Vic's... his hair was perfect.' A film about competitive psychology. And, one of my alltime favorite Scorsese flicks.
Creepshow (Snap Case)Creepshow (Snap Case)
Buy used from: $0.50
1982. 'Oh, Jordy Verrill, you lunkhead!' George Romero takes a break from defining the zombie genre and teams up with Stephen King. Creepy and oh so 80's.
DinerDiner
Buy new: $8.49 / Used from: $0.95
1982. Future Stars in training. 'Sinatra or Mathis?... Presley.' All prospective brides should have to take the football quiz.

Easy MoneyEasy Money
Buy new: $14.49 / Used from: $3.22
1983. Asking Rodney to give up drugs, was like asking Richard Simmons to give up men. No one did it like Rodney. 'Why don't you two put your heads together and make an _ss out of yourself.' Joe Pesci is like... 21 years old in this. Side splitting.
Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980 & 2004 Versions, 2-Disc Widescreen Edition)Star Wars Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980 & 2004 Versions, 2-Disc Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $6.96
1980. Vader is Luke's father? It was whispered into Mark Hamill's ear right before the reveal was captured on film. The best kept secret in the history of filmmaking. Classic for sure.
Escape from New York (Special Edition)Escape from New York (Special Edition)
Buy new: $23.99 / Used from: $4.44
1981. 'Call me Snake.' Kurt Russell's character inspired the lead character in Hideo Kojima's famous video game franchise, METAL GEAR SOLID. I think that qualifies this for Ultra-Classic status.
The Evil DeadThe Evil Dead
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $3.95
1981. 'I'll swallow your soul!' First time I saw this was at home, by myself, at 2 in the morning. I peed myself. Is this better than the EDII remake? You betcha. Only because the gooey stop motion animated ending is just sick sick sick!
Fast Times at Ridgemont High (Collector's Edition) (High School Reunion Collection)Fast Times at Ridgemont High (Collector's Edition) (High School Reunion Collection)
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $1.59
1982. C'mon... Spicoli, and Phoebe Cates' breasts? Need I say more? Oh, did I forget to mention Jennifer Jason Leigh also shows her breasts? Sorry. A Cameron Crowe and Amy Heckerling Classic.
Fatal Attraction (Special Collector's Edition)Fatal Attraction (Special Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.98
1987. This flick single-handedly killed the one-night stand. Glenn Close is just frightening! And, I mean that as a compliment. What a great role!
Ferris Bueller's Day Off Bueller...Bueller... Edition (Special Collector's Edition)Ferris Bueller's Day Off Bueller...Bueller... Edition (Special Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $7.49 / Used from: $4.46
1986. Yeah, the 80's were just as much fun as they looked. You can't say enough about Jeffrey Jones as Ed Rooney. A brilliant fellow. And, Charlie Sheen plays himself.
Flashdance (Special Collector's Edition w/ Bonus CD)Flashdance (Special Collector's Edition w/ Bonus CD)
Buy new: $15.49 / Used from: $9.69
1983. You might say that this one falls into the SUCKS category. Unless you thought Jennifer Beals' body double was hot!! Because of all the goofy FLASHDANCE parodies at the time, I can't hear MANIAC without cracking up. And, my girlfriend played the soundtrack incessantly, so seeing a rerun on TV blasts me right back to the 80's.
The Fly (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)The Fly (Two-Disc Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $9.23
1986. 'My teeth have begun to fall out. The medicine cabinet is now the Brundle Museum of Natural History. You wanna see what else is in it?' The commercial gross-out film of the 80's. A great remake, and one of Cronenberg's best films.
Footloose (Special Collector's Edition)Footloose (Special Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $2.49
1984. 80's camp to the Nth degree. Of course, my favorite scene is when an angry Kevin Bacon is drinkin', smokin' a cigarette, poundin' on his car, and doing gymnastics to Kenny Loggins' FOOTLOOSE. Unintentionally hilarious and fun! An 80's feelgood music video romp. Chris Penn shines!
48 HRS.48 HRS.
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $1.53
1982. Eddie Murphy's 1st film set the standard for the comic buddy movie. Supposedly the F bomb was dropped 48 times in this flick. What a coincidence... 48 hours, 48 fu... oh, never mind. Funny, foul, and violent. As an added bonus, Murphy and Nolte kick the crap out each other.
Ghostbusters (Widescreen Edition)Ghostbusters (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $1.98
1984. '... Then of course in the third reconciliation of the last of the Meketrex supplicants they chose a new form for him, that of a giant Sloar. Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of the Sloar that day, I can tell you.' OMG, Rick Moranis had the best lines in this Classic comic fantasy.
The Karate Kid (Special Edition)The Karate Kid (Special Edition)
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $1.99
1984. Daniel-san learns karate and wisdom from an unassuming Japanese Master. Best feelgood underdog film EVER made! Pat Morita should have won an Oscar. Seriously underrated 80's Classic.
Less Than ZeroLess Than Zero
Buy new: $8.49 / Used from: $3.29
1987. A sign of the 80's. The neverending party. Robert Downey Jr. got high one night and woke up in the middle of this film and didn't even realize he was making a movie.
The Lost Boys (Two-Disc Special Edition)The Lost Boys (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $20.49 / Used from: $4.55
1987. 'My own brother a goddamn, sh_t-sucking vampire! You wait 'til Mom finds out.' Sleep all day. Party all night. Vampires weren't the only ones to live by this credo in the 80's. Comic horror Classic. Trade-in your old copy. This latest DVD transfer is almost perfect.
Modern ProblemsModern Problems
Buy used from: $29.50
1981. 'I'm not a freak. He's a freak. I'm a goddamned good lookin' man.' Haha. This one just edged out FLETCH on this list. Only because Dabney Coleman was so 'f'ing funny in this flick. And this got way more airplay in the 80's. I only wish this wasn't out-of-print. (FLETCH is still great and deserves a spot on this list.)
Mr. MomMr. Mom
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $1.80
1983. 'Yeah, 220, 221. Whatever it takes.' Michael Keaton works his comic chops right after NIGHT SHIFT, and a few years before BEETLEJUICE and BATMAN. I've seen this one probably more times than any other movie on this list. They ran it a lot in the 80's.
