Easily the most powerful and emotionally gripping kaiju(monster) movie of all time. While Gojira/Godzilla went on to fulfill various roles throughout the years, he originally represented the all too real horrors of the atomic age. Honda and Tsuburaya's masterpiece is both an anti-war elegy as well as a personal tale of honor, betrayal and sacrifice.

A pretty good flick involving a new Mechagodzilla and giving some much needed screen time to Rodan. It also introduces Baby Godzilla-a far more tolerable godzillasaurus than Minilla ever was.

The Millennium era series of films start out of the gate strong with this offering from '99. Godzilla himself even gets a much-welcomed redesign. The baddie doesn't make a proper appearance until the end, but it's well worth the wait.

I love this movie. Godzilla's back to take the crown for meanest kaiju around and he's a silver-eyed demon in this one. Ghidorah plays good guy for a change and both Mothra and Baragon will need his help to stand a chance against the monster king.

Finally we get Mothra on dvd. But what's this? The H-Man and Battle In Outer Space are also included? As well as the American versions of each film? Done and done.

While not wholly original by any means, nor spotlighting the best effects a toku ever had, Iron King does have heart and you could do far worse with your time and money than this series.

More wild satire than anything else, Big Man Japan gathers its concepts both from classic kaiju films and toku shows respectively. It also sports some nice cg of both the title character as well as the many wacky monsters he encounters. Be prepared for an equally bizarre ending that further justifies its place on this list.

If you can find it, and that's a big if, Godzilla vs. Megalon's scathing riffing courtesy of MST3K is pure gold. This is even more so if you're a fan at all of the Showa era Godzilla films. MST3K's version of Jet Jaguar's theme song is worth the price of admission alone...or at least it was until Toho called foul.

While more of a guro(gore) film than a kaiju/tokusatsu piece, Meatball Machine does offer blatantly rubber suited combatants fiercely battling it out with one another throughout. Amemiya's work is also found here with his design of the "necroborgs"-alien parasite piloted human hosts who wield various bizarre and outrageous armaments.
