Respect, friendship and humanity in this beautiful and touching movie about the passing of time and a way of life between a soldier and a Goldi (Nanai) hunter. This was Kurosaswa's movie based on V. K. Arseniev's memoirs about a hunter who became the guide to a group of soldiers on a land surveying mission. Acting and photography is lovely, dvd quality is ok.
BarakaBaraka
The move that Ron Fricke made after being the renown cinemtographer for Philip Glass's and Godfrey Reggio's trilogy Koyanisqatasi. There is a beautiful and earthy shamanist subtext here about man's connection with nature. A sense of wonder occupies everywhere we are taken to. Not to be missed.

Yes, we could all have done without Al Gore's public moping over the 2000 election. But this is still an educational movie about global warming, something certain parties refuse to acknowledge. Why not impress your friends the next time everyone's sweating in the midst of winter? Recite information from this movie and gain heretic status among your Republican colleagues!

Les Blank's documentary about the making of Werner Herzog's movie Fitzcarraldo, putting many horrific myths about the production to rest. Herzog, responsible, adventurous, and always respectful of indigenous cultures, tells his side of the story of their struggle in the South American jungle. Wonderful extract of his favorite fiend Klaus Kinski playing with a butterfly.

He plays a mean harmonica, he doesn't get airlifted to the Sheraton when he's supposed to be roughing it out at a tent, and he's always respectful of animals and environment, hunting only when absolutely necessary. Get the best seat in the house and go on a date with a guy who doesn't shower for seven days.
