What an amazing album! Listen to it!
Attack and ReleaseAttack and Release by The Black Keys
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $9.56
I have to admit I was worried that Danger Mouse would mess with the Black Keys established sound. It is a bit different but in a good--not better but different--way.
Evil UrgesEvil Urges by My Morning Jacket
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $5.46
Finally gave in to the hype and have to admit MMJ is a great band.
Brighter Than Creation's DarkBrighter Than Creation's Dark by Drive-By Truckers
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $6.99
DBT remain quite simply the best rock band in America (or anywhere). It was hard to follow up their previous four masterpieces. Impossibly high expectations are the only reason this isn't higher in my list.
Stay PositiveStay Positive by The Hold Steady
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $6.00
Another band I resisted because of the hype surrounding them. Again, I have to admit I was wrong. This is a great album with exceptionally well written songs.
The Better Angels of Our NatureThe Better Angels of Our Nature
Buy new: $7.99
This band from Murfreesburo, TN, are a new discovery for me in 2008. This is simply a fantastic album that I downloaded for free, which was a great strategy for the band as I went back and filled in their back catalog.
Blame It On GravityBlame It On Gravity by Old 97's
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $3.15
I think I'll always be a fan of the 97s. Ken Bethea is my favorite guitar player out there.
The Good LifeThe Good Life by Justin Townes Earle
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $9.54
With two of the greatest songwriters ever as his dad and godfather, he has a lot to live up to. I'm glad he opted to go his own route. Great old school country.
The Felice BrothersThe Felice Brothers by The Felice Brothers
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $4.28
Their best release yet.
Everything That Happens Will Happen TodayEverything That Happens Will Happen Today by David Byrne
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $6.99
Byrne and Eno team up again. I downloaded this right away and shelved it after a listen or two. For some reason, I listened again and loved it. Must have been a mood thing.
Weezer (Red Album)Weezer (Red Album) by Weezer
Buy new: $10.97 / Used from: $4.51
In Anaheim w/ a rental car for a conference and facing a long drive to Dodger Stadium, I stopped off at a Target and bought this (only decent disc I could find). I listened to it the rest of the trip and grew to be quite fond of it. "Everybody Get Dangerous" reminds me of how stupid we were as kids and scares me that my kids will follow in my stupid adolescent footsteps.
MescalitoMescalito by Ryan Bingham
Buy new: $10.97 / Used from: $7.75
A fantastic young TX singer-songwriter.
