Profiles in CourageProfiles in Courage by John F. Kennedy

Some say he wrote it, others maintain he didn't write a single word. Whatever the case, this award winning book by John F. Kennedy reveals EXTREMELY difficult times during the terms of various presidents and how they each acted according to their own consciences inspite of public opinon and party pressure.

Oliver Stone's surprisingly sympathetic look at Tricky Dick. My favorite scene has Nixon talking to a portait of Kennedy and paraphrasing a Greek philosopher. "When they look at you they see what they want to be. When they look at me, they see what they are." If only he had really been that perceptive.

My mother took my 8 year old daughter to see this. To my daughter's credit she managed to sit still through the entire thing.

This is the perfect follow up for ALL THE PRESIDENTS MEN! What a hoot. A completely different take on Watergate involving 2 teenage girls, one of whom develops a case of the hots for Nixon! Really! If you haven't seen this in its entirity, you must!
Kissinger & Nixon [VHS]Kissinger & Nixon [VHS]
Buy used from: $5.49
Picture this; Ron Silver is Kissinger and Beau Bridges is Nixon! ITS PERFECT! Bridges is the best Nixon I've ever seen and Silver, long one of my favorite actors, is the best Kissiger that I've almost managed to hear!

One of the man versions.
All the King's MenAll the King's Men
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $1.99
Don't bother with the Sean Penn version for although he doesn't make a bad Willie Stark (a thinly veiled version of Louisianna governor Huey Long), the remake doesn't have much to do with Willie at all. Another case of the original still being the best.

Rather than taking a look at FDR's presidency, check out this movie which concerns itself with the onset of his polio.

Greene hated this adaptation of his novel, but I've always had a soft spot for it, probably for the very same reason he hated it.
Secret Honor - Criterion CollectionSecret Honor - Criterion Collection

One last look at Nixon unraveling in this Robert Altman production of a one man stage play starring Rip Torn as Nixon.
JFK (Special Edition Director's Cut) - Oliver Stone CollectionJFK (Special Edition Director's Cut) - Oliver Stone Collection

Stone never intended for his film to be taken as gospel, he merely offered a possibility and asked his audience to think. Anyway you slice it, this is powerful movie making.
Thirteen Days (Infinifilm Edition)Thirteen Days (Infinifilm Edition)
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $0.75
This film explains why I wasn't frightened during the Kennedy administration, and why George and W. have had me scared to death for so many years. It takes BRAINS to be a good president! Or even a mediocre one.
RFKRFK

The year of RFK's assassination was the first year I was able to vote in a presidential election. I had planned to be in Chicago for the Democratic National Convention too.

This British made for tv nuclear apocholpyse flick is scarier than anything else I've seen from Hllywod with all thier CGI effects.
Give Em Hell, Harry!Give Em Hell, Harry!

James Whitmore's one man-show as Harry S Truman makes you realize what's missing in current presidents, in case you didn't already know. I saw Kevin McCarthy do the show in person.

A not to be missed 60's classic. Make certain you get a letterboxed version or you'll lose the whole point of the movie,

My favorite of the loveable-president-comedies produced recently. Cutest part is that only Oliver Stone is the only person who notices that the president is literally a "new" man.

He has a great staff and a great vice-president and tons of honor and integrity...how did this guy get elected in the first place?

Relive those wonderful days of yore when liberals were still liberals and Mort Sahl still had a career.
HeartlandHeartland by Mort Sahl
Buy used from: $1.61
Sahl wrote, "a social democrat president would have to bomb China to prove he wasn't a communist." That was back when he knew who he was and we knew too. But then he got confused, started admiring Ronald Reagan, and even voted for Richard Nixon, "Nixon's not so bad. He wants the same things I do, he just wants them differently." That sort of spelled the end of Sahl's career.
