Interesting WWII Sub hunt picture. Look for all the recognizable bit players. Good depiction of both Destroyer tactics and Submarine tactics and how they interplay in a duel to the death.

Great interplay between Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster as the Capitan and the Exec (who should have been Capitan). Story about US Submarine operating in the Pacific. Not great on tactics or strategy, but a watchable movie.

Excellent WW2 submarine movie follows the US Submarine fleet in the pacific as they pass through the early war teething pains to become an effective force.

I can't say that the director's cut is significantly better than the theatrical release. You do get more of the back story. Thankfully shorter than the full uncut TV movie. Sets the standard for WW2 submarine movies.
