![]() | Man o'War by Walter Farley
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01 I first read this book in fourth grade, and I still enjoy reading it today. Farley's writing is unique in a normal way. That doesn't make sense. But it's true! You don't think it's anything spectacular when you read the book, but what's important is that you remember it. Farley is a master of suspense, and creates an amazing book. There really arent enough positive adjectives to describe it.

![]() | Pride and Prejudice (Bantam Classics) by Jane Austen
Buy new: $4.95 / Used from: $0.01 What can you say? I mean, it's THE classic. When you think of English literature, what comes to mind? I'm sure other books do, but for me, this comes first. Jane Austen is unparalleled when it comes to writing about the mundane, everyday life and making it interesting. She's a genius, and the book shows it. Wittingly spectacular, my friends, especially for you feminists out there.

![]() | The Perfect Distance: A Novel by Kim Ablon Whitney
Buy new: $15.95 / Used from: $0.01 I've been riding horses for 10 years, and I really appreciate this book. It's the first truly good teen equestrian novel. None of the Saddle Club find the missing pony crap. Francie, the main character, embarks on a journey to find herself, while also trying to make it to the Maclay. I appreciated the riding jargin and action, and the romance and teen plot. Very strong book.

![]() | Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
Buy new: $8.95 / Used from: $0.24 I love this book. That's all there is to say. Witty, unique, funny, and believable. You really wanted to be the main character. I could read this over and over and over and never get tired of it. I really don't have words to describe how much I love this book.

![]() | The Pursuit of Happiness by Tara Altebrando
Buy new: $9.95 / Used from: $0.01 Another one of my favorites. A phenomenal book with a unique plot. Betsy, working at a local historical museum for the summer, copes with the normal teen problems: no friends at work, break up with boyfriend, etc. But she matures through the plot because of what happens, and by the time I had finished, I was actually sad. It's one of the books that you're sad that you finished. READ IT.

![]() | Burned by Ellen Hopkins
Buy new: $12.95 / Used from: $5.16 At first, I was very skeptical. What could possibly happen to a Mormon girl in Nevada? A lot. That's what. What was great about this is that I really had no idea what to expect, and was thoroughly impressed. And Hopkins wrote in prose poetry - a very effective way of getting all her characters thoughts across. Read it!

![]() | The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
Buy new: $9.36 / Used from: $1.36 It might be considered a cliché mystery. Shady characters, a "dark forest (of books)", a stupid main character (though he's really not - dramatic irony just makes you feel superior), etc... But really, it's a page-turner. The writing has the classic edge to it, and sounds more sophisticated. And despite the "shady character", the majority are unique and dynamic. Major recommendation.

![]() | Herzog (Penguin Classics) by Saul Bellow
Buy new: $10.20 / Used from: $4.20 You may say, What is a Saul Bellow book doing on my list? Well, I read it for a school project and loved it. Bellow writes like no one else. Every page is weighted with meaning and sub-meaning and metaphors and who knows what else. I'd have to read the book fifty more times to catch everything. Difficult read, but definitely worth it. Guarantee that youll feel five times smarter when you're done.

![]() | Angels & Demons by Dan Brown
Buy used from: $0.01 I find it sad that you can find used copies for one friggin' cent. This was on the best seller list for a reason, and is much better than it's over-exposed sequel. Sure, a bit more gore, but surprisingly, I don't think that it takes away from the plot (as most gore does). Brown does a phenomenal job. Read it!

![]() | Search of the Moon King's Daughter by Linda Holeman
Buy new: $9.31 / Used from: $0.01 This book is geared toward the younger generation, but I fell in love with the characters and, as we all know, it's hard to fall "out' of love. Reminiscent of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - the female character suffering in poverty. But this is the happy-ending kid's version.

![]() | Daughter of the Forest (The Sevenwaters Trilogy, Book 1) by Juliet Marillier
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.37 I'm not usually a big sci-fi / fantasy girl, but I have to say, this book rocked me. It's an extremely powerful story, and written very well. Definitely recommend.
|
![]() | Son of the Shadows (The Sevenwaters Trilogy, Book 2) by Juliet Marillier
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.64 I have to say that, although this book was very good, I liked the first one better. Sorcha is a more likeable character. But Marillier continues to impress!
|
![]() | Child of the Prophecy (The Sevenwaters Trilogy, Book 3) by Juliet Marillier
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.01 Okay, new favorite book. See above two accounts, and then add a billion compliments that I don't have time to type, and you have my review.
|
![]() | A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly
Buy new: $8.95 / Used from: $0.01 My personal opinion is that the writing could've been stronger. The book is obviously written for pre-teens, but there is a birth scene, so I was a little confused. However, the plot is strong (it's based off Dreiser, for God's sake), so, therefore, it's an overall good book.

![]() | A Great and Terrible Beauty (The Gemma Doyle Trilogy) by Libba Bray
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $0.01 I read my original review, and because I at one time really liked this book, didn't have the heart to take it off the list. Now, it's a very unique book. I've gotta give Libba Bray that. And the title is ingenious. But...I don't know. I get frustrated with the characters, I guess. There's just something that I can't put my finger on. It's a good book. You should read it. It's probably just me.
|
![]() | Rebel Angels by Libba Bray
Buy new: $11.53 / Used from: $0.68 Well, see above, and then imagine me shouting at Gemma at the top of my lungs because she's so stupid! And has impeccably bad timing! Frustrating? Remember that adjective? It's very, very very true.
|
![]() | Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson
Buy new: $11.55 / Used from: $2.79 I'va always been a fan of Anderson. And she writes another superbly perfect teen novel. This book is like the nightmare version of high school, but unlike most books about the nightmare versions, this is very believable. Plus, it's from the guy's perspective, and he's not gay. I'm so sick of teen gay guy books. This is a powerful and well-written refresher.
