![]() | One Cell In the Sea by A Fine Frenzy
Buy used from: $10.68 Excellent young singer-songwriter. Self taught piano player with a voice of sweetly sorrowful soul.
![]() | Decipher by After Forever
Buy used from: $24.98 What I call Operatic Metal. Classically written metal with a woman who has so much power and range I am always left amazed. You cannot go wrong with any of thier albums.
![]() | Lateralus by Tool
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $6.29 By Tool: Opiate-Good. Undertow-Very Good. Aenima: Excellent. Lateralus: Cosmic. They are mellow when heavy and vice versa.
![]() | Symphony by Sarah Brightman
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.02 I recently was introduced to Sarah Brightmans's work. I now have every album but 2007's Symphony is a miracle of composition. Duets with Bocelli, Safina, and even one with Paul Stanley of Kiss fame. 6 out of 5 stars. Yes, it's that good!
![]() | Cure for Pain by Morphine
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $2.91 It's hard to just pick a single Morphine album. They are all cool. Picture yourself sitting on a leather couch in a smoky jazz bar with a glass of whatever you prefer and a beautiful woman next to you. There is a reason this trio is called Morphine. You just feel cool and mellow with a slight smirk on your face.
![]() | Vivaldi: The Four Seasons; Violin Concertos
Buy new: $6.98 / Used from: $3.49 Most of these four concertos you probably know it part from commercials and Looney Tunes cartoons. However, wake up one morning, open the curtains to let the rising sun warm your skin, and listen to Spring and Summer. Then, before bed, have a glass of wine while immersed in Autumn and Winter.
![]() | At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $3.55 This is what it is all about. Doing what you love, in a place where it does some good, without fear of censure.
![]() | The Beekeeper by Tori Amos
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $2.56 I like Tori for her quirkiness and honesty. She is, without doubt, a pianist and singer of rare caliber. Plus, the sense of humor, irony, and ability to tell tales is impressive. Any album is good but I really like this one.
![]() | The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move by Infectious Grooves
Buy used from: $6.20 Funky Suicial Tendencies!! Robert Trujillo is a bassmasta. Metal, funk, jazz...it's all here. Plus, the interludes with the lizard are hilarious.
![]() | The Division Bell by Pink Floyd
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $2.08 You know, Floyd has made some of the best albums in existence. This one just doesn't get the credit it deserves. I know, no Roger Waters here, but it doesn't matter. This is a dreary day curled up on the couch with a book album.
![]() | The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking by Roger Waters
Buy used from: $2.68 Here is my nod to Roger. This is typical Waters style. "There were arabs with knives at the foot of the bed, Right at the foot of the bed". This album takes place over an early morning dream sequence and is well worth the listen. Clapton on guitar, too!
![]() | Electric Love Hogs by Electric Love Hogs
Buy used from: $0.01 These poor guys just showed up at the wrong time. When the "seattle scene" was in it's heyday and butt rock heading out here comes Electric Love Hogs. Two members went on to form Goldfinger. This is still an excellent album. Funky bass, screaming guitar, and some funny lyrics.
![]() | Brain Salad Surgery by Lake & Palmer Emerson
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $5.98 These guys are so talented it's ridiculous. Prog-rock when they didn't even have a term for it. Nobody knew what to call it and that's to the good. Plus, H.R. Geiger art!
![]() | MTV Unplugged by 10,000 Maniacs
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $0.01 I have listened to every one of their studio albums and I don't think any of them can touch this performance. Simply amazing. Natalie is outstanding.
![]() | Diabolus in Musica by Slayer
Buy new: $17.98 / Used from: $2.98 Yeah, yeah, you metalheads will be like, "What, he didn't pick Rein in Blood?". Slayer is the only band I know who get more raw as they go on. No selling out here.
![]() | Travelers & Thieves by Blues Traveler
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $0.01 I know many people who like these guys and have albums but why are Dave and I the only ones with this. From Onslaught to Mountain Cry, I think this is the best BT album hands down.
![]() | Up by Great Big Sea
Buy new: $23.99 / Used from: $3.89 Newfoundland. Sailing and drinking tunes. Fun, serious, these guy play instruments I can't pronounce, and harmonize extremely well.
![]() | The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan by Bob Dylan
Buy new: $6.99 / Used from: $4.30 Mostly just because I had to pick one. This is the bard of our century. Even if you can't stand his voice you should read his lyrics.
![]() | Bob Dylan/Lyrics 1962-1985 by Bob Dylan
Buy used from: $129.95 Here is the above mentioned book for "them" hehehe
![]() | Live at Benaroya Hall by Pearl Jam
Buy used from: $9.93 If you are one of those who thought Pearl Jam didn't make any music after Ten, Vs, or Vitalogy, you have seriously been missing out. This is a two CD set of 26 mostly acoustic songs during a benefit show they did for young adult shelters. Do yourself a favor and get it.
![]() | Beethoven Edition: Complete Works (85CD Box Set)
Buy new: $125.99 / Used from: $99.00 The baroque-meister. 85 CDs may seem excessive to some but hey, it's Beethoven. If you haven't seen it you should also watch "Immortal Beloved" with Gary Oldman playing Beethoven.
![]() | Violator by Depeche Mode
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $0.10 This is an amazing piece of work. I like nearly every album DM has put out and this is no exception.
![]() | Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Buy used from: $2.88 This is some old school that still rocks. Well, you know what I mean.
![]() | To the Faithful Departed by The Cranberries
Buy used from: $0.01 One of my friends says about the Cranberries, "I've heard enough Irish Political Music!". Well, there is far more to them than that. This is a great album to pop in anytime.
![]() | NOLA by Down
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $4.54 When this first came out all I could think was, "Rejoice!". Down and dirty southern metal by members of Pantera, Corrosion of Conformity, EyeHateGod, Biohazard. The lineup has since changed a bit but their following two albums are just as bad---.
![]() | We Will Take You With Us by Epica
Buy used from: $34.99 If you can get this DVD/CD you should treat yourself. I have a soft spot for Operatic Metal, as I mentioned earlier, and this band has the guitarist who founded After Forever. The DVD has the band setup plus an eight piece choir and, if I remember correctly, a six piece string section of violas and cellos. Simones' voice is angelic.
![]() | Born 4 by Jakalope
Buy new: $34.99 / Used from: $5.62 This is kick--- album! Her voice is so sweet and Dave Ogilvie of KMFDM does his usual masterful mixing. The track "Feel It" from the "It Dreams" album is also incredible.
![]() | Secret Voyage by Blackmore's Night
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $12.50 Yep, Deep Purple guitarist in a predominantly folk-oriented band. Not what you would expect but still great music. "Locked Within the Crystal Ball" is one of those songs that builds and builds and when you think it must be at it's peak, it builds some more.
![]() | The Possibility of Being
Buy new: $16.98 / Used from: $1.73 Candlebox singer's solo album. If you like Candlebox even a little bit then you must check this one out.
![]() | Henry's Dream by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Buy used from: $4.99 Any album by these guys is a work of art. I chose this one because it was the first one I ever picked up. Think Johnny Cash meets the Allman Brothers but in an alternate world where all of them are seriously disturbed.
![]() | The Edges of Twilight by The Tea Party
Buy used from: $2.74 Again, any CD of this Canadian trio is worth nearly endless listens. This and Splendor Solis have some incredible acoustic guitar work. These guys travel the world looking for instruments to include in their music, learn to play them, and then incorporate. I simply can't say enough good things about The Tea Party.
![]() | Secrets by Divine Madness
Buy used from: $9.00 I don't know why Divine Madness isn't getting serious airplay. It's a bit mellower for a rock-ish group but so melodic. Victoria's voice is so seductive.
![]() | Sombre Romantic by Virgin Black
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $7.05 You just have to listen to this duo to understand. If you are ever feeling depressed, pop in Sombre Romantic, and you will realize you can't hold a candle to this guy's despair so you might as well cheer up.
![]() | Broken by Nine Inch Nails
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $2.95 I love conversations with music buffs about what are the best albums by any given artist. I pick Broken only because it has track 99: Physical (You're So). I freaking LOVE that song. "I want to touch all your charms, the heat of your breath, I want to say all those things, that would be better unsaid".
![]() | 21st Century Breakdown by Green Day
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $8.78 Another thing that cracks me up are the "die-hard" fans or the "traditionalists". Those who think if an artist changes his/her sound a bit then they have sold out. Get off your high horse. Green Day get better with every single album. Period. Ten minute punk song? Who has heard of that? Nobody...and that's why it's still punk.
![]() | Mercy by Burden Brothers
Buy new: $12.98 / Used from: $0.89 Toadies singer's other band. If you expect the Toadies then you will be disappointed. This is a totally different sound but is still rockin' like crazy.
![]() | Desiderata by Madder Mortem
Buy new: $16.98 / Used from: $6.39 There are just some bands that defy everything. Madder Mortem is one of them. Hailing from Poland, they play some of the most wonderfully crafted discordant metal I've ever heard. Her voice draws you in and then screams in your face.
![]() | Death Magnetic by Metallica
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $5.50 I don't know if there has ever been a band or artist who has garnered so much love and hatred...and love again. Well, maybe Prince when he changed his name but I think that was mostly ridicule...other than that, the award goes to Metallica. These guys have made some of the most classic metal ever and some of the worst metal ever. Now, with Death Magnetic, the Four Horsemen ride again.
