Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002 Original Broadway Cast)Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002 Original Broadway Cast) by Jeanine Tesori
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $4.09
This show is so much fun and in my top 3 favorite musicals. It will make you want to get out the tap shoes and "raise your skirts and bob your hair." P.S. Sutton Foster is amazing as Millie Dilmount
West Side StoryWest Side Story
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $6.43
This show comes in close to being my favorite musical. Call me crazy, but I like the movie soundtrack better than the Broadway cast. The voices are beautiful-too bad they were all dubbed in the movie.
Ragtime - The Musical (1998 Original Broadway Cast)Ragtime - The Musical (1998 Original Broadway Cast) by Stephen Flaherty
Buy new: $15.98 / Used from: $9.90
Hands-down, my favorite musical of all time and you have to see it to understand why. Brian Stokes Mitchell and Audra McDonald (AKA- Gods) blow you away with every note they sing. A MUST-HAVE
Aida (2000 Original Broadway Cast)Aida (2000 Original Broadway Cast) by Elton John
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $4.44
This show was my first musical to see on Broadway, so I will always be partial towards AIDA. It's so exciting to both hear and watch. Get it if you need something to keep you awake!
Wicked (2003 Original Broadway Cast)Wicked (2003 Original Broadway Cast) by Kristin Chenoweth
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $7.89
Who doesn't love this lively musical? I saw the original Broadway cast with Kristin Chenowith as Glinda, Idina Menzel as Elphaba and Joel Gray as the Wizard *sticks out tongue*
Rent (2005 Movie Soundtrack)Rent (2005 Movie Soundtrack) by Jonathan Larson
Buy new: $24.99 / Used from: $5.99
I may get some hate mail from the "RENT-heads," but I actually liked the voices in the movie better than from the Broadway cast. Maybe it's because their voices have matured since 1996.
The Lion King (1997 Original Broadway Cast)The Lion King (1997 Original Broadway Cast) by Elton John
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $3.00
Love this version so much better than the movie. The newly added songs by Elton John are better than the original songs from the movie. Heather Headley blasts "Shadowland" just like she did in "AIDA"
Mamma Mia! The Musical Based on the Songs of ABBA: A Decca Broadway Original Cast Recording (1999 London Cast)Mamma Mia! The Musical Based on the Songs of ABBA: A Decca Broadway Original Cast Recording (1999 London Cast) by Benny Andersson
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $2.00
Best-known for "Dancing Queen," ABBA's songs are very upbeat in a funny, girlie show. I saw this on Broadway and it was amusing to see jumpsuits with sequence--ah, the 70's.
Little Women The Musical (2005 Original Broadway Cast)Little Women The Musical (2005 Original Broadway Cast) by Danny Gurwin
Buy new: $12.97 / Used from: $9.75
I will always stick by my Sutton Foster, whom I worship. I saw the touring show and loved every minute. The story is great, the songs are good, and the cast is one of the best.
Godspell (2001 National Touring Cast)Godspell (2001 National Touring Cast) by Stephen Schwartz
Buy new: $16.98 / Used from: $6.00
I have always loved this musical--the songs are so beautiful and, being a Steven Schwartz fan, this is one of my favorites of his. "By My Side" still makes me cry.
Chicago - The Musical (1996 Broadway Revival Cast)Chicago - The Musical (1996 Broadway Revival Cast) by John Kander
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $0.46
OK, so Ann Reinking was too old to play "Roxie" and her voice sucked, but BeBe Newirth as "Velma" makes it worth your while. The movie left out so many good songs--buy this revival version!
Little Shop of Horrors (2003 Broadway Revival Cast)Little Shop of Horrors (2003 Broadway Revival Cast) by Alan Menken
Buy new: $18.98 / Used from: $8.00
Who knew a horror film would be turned into a 1950's rock-and-roll musical? The music is danceable and fun--though the story is a bit morbid.
Matthew Broderick in "How to Succeed in Business WIthout Really Trying!"Matthew Broderick in "How to Succeed in Business WIthout Really Trying!" by Frank Loesser
Buy new: $8.98 / Used from: $1.94
Matthew Broderick IS "Ponty F-I-N-C-H." I guess I'm partial to the revival version because I have a major crush on Matthew Broderick. But , seriously, the show is hilarious and fun!
Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (1992 Canadian Cast)Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (1992 Canadian Cast) by Tim Rice
Buy new: $13.99 / Used from: $5.00
By far--the best version of this show I've heard. And trust me, I've heard most of every version. Donny Osmond makes a great Joseph--he also did the PBS version a few years ago.
Footloose the Musical (1998 Original Broadway Cast)Footloose the Musical (1998 Original Broadway Cast) by Tom Snow
Buy used from: $31.36
Totally love this musical--"it's rad," as they said in the 80's. It's hip, it's cool, so "everybody cut footloose!" P.S. Don't waste your time seeing the movie.
Into the Woods (1987 Original Broadway Cast)Into the Woods (1987 Original Broadway Cast) by Stephen Sondheim
Buy used from: $4.00
Bernadette Peters-another Broadway Diva I love. This is my favorite Steven Sondheim show and always will be. A twisted fairy-tale, you have to watch this one at least once.
You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (1999 Broadway Revival Cast)You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (1999 Broadway Revival Cast) by Clark Gesner
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $7.07
Kristin Chenowith won a Tony Award for best actress for her role as "Sally" and once you hear "My New Philosophy" you will know why. RENT star, Anthony Rapp is too cute as Charlie Brown.
A Chorus Line (1975 Original Broadway Cast) (Multichannel/Stereo SACD)A Chorus Line (1975 Original Broadway Cast) (Multichannel/Stereo SACD) by Marvin Hamlisch
Buy new: $18.97 / Used from: $5.99
Like "42nd Street" it's a musical about a musical. A classic. I can't wait to see the revival on Broadway this coming fall.
Annie (1977 Original Broadway Cast)Annie (1977 Original Broadway Cast)
Buy used from: $3.36
This was my favorite musical as a little girl. "Easy Street" is still the best--even if the bad guys sing it. The stage-version is better than the movie--they always leave out the good songs
Pippin (A Decca Broadway Original Cast Album)Pippin (A Decca Broadway Original Cast Album) by Stephen Schwartz
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.49
Another of my favorite Steven Schwartz musicals. I love the music--how the show is performed is just a bit odd. But, Ben Vereen is an amazing dancer and listening to him makes it all worth it.
Hairspray (2002 Original Broadway Cast)Hairspray (2002 Original Broadway Cast) by Marc Shaiman
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $1.25
It took me a while to warm-up to this musical, simply because the voices got annoying--especially Harvey Fierstein's god-awful voice (or, what's left of it) but if you like "Grease," you'll like this
The Phantom of the Opera (The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)The Phantom of the Opera (The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) by Andrew Lloyd Webber
Buy new: $15.93 / Used from: $9.95
Another musical where I like the movie better than the stage version. I saw this one on Broadway and almost fell asleep.
42nd Street (2001 Revival Broadway Cast)42nd Street (2001 Revival Broadway Cast) by Al Dubin
Buy used from: $5.93
Just like the cover says, "The Broadway musical for people who love Broadway musicals." I was lucky to see this one right before it closed on Broadway. If you love tap dancing, this is perfect for you
Les Miserables (Highlights from the 1987 Original Broadway Cast)Les Miserables (Highlights from the 1987 Original Broadway Cast) by Alain Boublil
Buy new: $18.98 / Used from: $7.99
I suppose I should put this on my list since it's on everyone else's. I have this version--trust me, just get the highlights CD 'cause it includes all the good ones.
Evita: The Complete Motion Picture Music SoundtrackEvita: The Complete Motion Picture Music Soundtrack by Tim Rice
Buy new: $22.99 / Used from: $0.40
Just recently got into this musical. I saw the stage-version first and then the movie. Love them both, but the movie soundtrack contains the best and most important songs in the show.
