My all-time-favorite "color theory" book, this also has excellent oil-painting techniques. Makes color theory easy to understand and too delicious to be tedious.

MacPherson's guides are indispensible, whether you're painting outside or in your studio. Contains excellent information on color, value, and technique.

Much easier to get a hold of than his other books, so grab it now while it's still in print! It's exactly what the cover says it is.

Again, pricey since it's out of print, but an extremely valuable book for common-sense art advice.

An excellent little book of some of the best contemporary pastel paintings in a wide variety of styles.

A good introductory guide - the best part of this book is the details (ears, eyes, differences between leopards and jaguars, where elbows go on different animals, etc.)

Joe Weatherly's sketchy style makes it easy to see and learn the structure and surface anatomy of animals. Includes many unusual animals like camels and alligators.

An excellent companion to Ellengerger's Anatomy. I prefer Ellenberger's illustrations, but Goldfinger's has a wider variety of animals (including illustrations of different horn and antler types), and since it's tailored to sculptors it focuses more on the mass and contours of the animals.

An excellent guide full of illustrations. Even includes sections on gender, aging, weight, and ethnicities.

Much much more than just facial expressions, a great guide for drawing the head, eyes, nose, mouth in a variety of attitudes.

Though most of the demonstrations in this book are in colored pencil and watercolor, this is a wonderful guide to surface anatomy, getting a likeness, mixing skin and hair tone, etc.

In the same vein as "The Artist's Way," this has creative ideas for how best to use your talents and creativity in the "real world."
