![]() | Harley Brown's Inspiration for Every Artist by Harley Brown

![]() | Harley Brown's Eternal Truths for Every Artist by Harley Brown
Buy used from: $86.00 Pricey since it's out of print, but well worth it if you can find a used copy.
![]() | Confessions of a Starving Artist: Art and Life of Harley Brown by Harley Brown

![]() | How to Draw Animals (Famous Artists School: Step-By-Step Method) by Cortina Famous Schools Staff
Buy new: $7.95 / Used from: $3.76 This may seem a bit basic, but there's a wealth of information as long as you ignore the step-by-step projects in the front. My favorite parts: animal gaits (including cows), learning animals according to shape(cat-like, cow-like), and a whole section on birds and flight patterns.
![]() | How to Draw Animals (Perigee) by Jack Hamm

![]() | An Atlas of Animal Anatomy for Artists by W. Ellenberger
Buy new: $9.32 / Used from: $5.95 My favorite of the two anatomy guides, though it has fewer animals than Goldfinger's Anatomy. Great reference for dogs, big cats, and horses especially.
![]() | Animal Anatomy for Artists: The Elements of Form by Eliot Goldfinger
Buy new: $31.50 / Used from: $25.06 An excellent companion to Ellengerger's Anatomy. I prefer Ellenberger's illustrations, but Goldfinger's has a wider variety of animals (including illustrations of different horn and antler types), and since it's tailored to sculptors it focuses more on the mass and contours of the animals.

Buy new: $26.40 / Used from: $15.21 Great for more intermediate figure artists. With a wealth of gorgeous color photographs and detailed drawings, the bodies and muscles are often in extreme poses that you don't often see. I would suggest a more academic guide like Peck's as an accompaniment.
