The policeman in charge of the ambassador's protection will have to solve a murder at the embassy the night of a radio broadcasted speech of the Führer.

***1/2 1949. Produced and directed by Otto Preminger. This film is an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's Lady Windermere's Fan. Mrs. Erlynne, an adventuress, arrives in London to see her only daughter Lady Windermere. The young woman, unaware of Mrs. Erlynne's real identity, thinks that her husband is cheating on her with this dangerous woman.

***** 1950. Produced and directed by Otto Preminger. A violent policeman, son of a thief, accidentally murders a key witness of the murder he must investigate. The father of the dead man's wife is charged with the murder while the policeman is feeling more and more guilty. Masterpiece.

***** 1953. Produced and directed by Otto Preminger. Golden Globe earned by David Niven and three Academy awards nominations. An exceptional comedy about sex featuring William Holden trying to understand the honest but disconcerting Maggie McNamara's speech about how to seduce a woman. Masterpiece.

**** 1954. Produced and directed by Otto Preminger. Based on CARMEN, Georges Bizet's opera. Bronze Bear in Berlin and Golden Globe in the Best Film Musical/Comedy category. Joe the soldier is seduced by the free spirited Carmen. He chooses soon to desert and follows Carmen Jones to Chicago. Highly recommended.

**** 1955. Directed by Otto Preminger. Academy award nomination in the Best Writing, Story and Screenplay category. Wahington DC, 1921. Shocked by the attitude of his hierarchy who doesn't believe in the future of aviation, Col. Billy Mitchell makes a statement to the press and is then court-martialed. Highly recommended.

****1/2 1958. Produced and directed by Otto Preminger. A wealthy playboy and his seventeen years old daughter Cécile live an insouciant life. They are spending the summer on the French Riviera when one of Raymond's old friend Anne comes to their house near the sea. Cécile imagines a scheme to get rid of her when Raymond decides to marry Anne. Highly recommended.

**** 1960. Produced and directed by Otto Preminger. One Academy award (Music) and two other nominations. Paul Newman is Ari Ben Canaan, one of the leaders of a Jewish independence movement. He manages to force the British forces to let the boat Exodus leave Cyprus and reach the port of Haïfa. It's very long but nonetheless highly recommended.

**** 1963. Produced and directed by Otto Preminger. Six Academy awards nominations and two Golden Globes (Best Picture and John Huston as Best Supporting actor). Stephen Fermoyle, on the verge of becoming cardinal remembers the high points of his life, between WWI and WWII. Highly recommended.

***1/2 1965. Produced and directed by Otto Preminger. London. When Ann Lake, who's just arrived from the States, wants to pick up her daughter the first day from the school, Bunny is missing. After a few days, Supt. Newhouse starts to wonder if Bunny Lake really exists. Recommended.
