Not your usual history text.

Watched the first episode. Lots of gratuitous sex and female nudity. A decent plot line, keeping Octavian in an interesting place. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th episodes kept the good stuff coming. Really liking this series; less gratuitous elements as the story deepens. The last disc had a bizarre relationship between two female characters that just did NOT jive. Julius' murder was handled well. 4 stars.

Master-level theses on friendship, and dealing with old age.

Almost as epic as its reputation. Didn't live up to the hype, but still a good read. Difficult to get into, but really starts rolling half-way through. 3 1/2 stars.

Cool, different grit fantasy novel. Echoes of Gene Wolfe's Soldier books, Aspirin's Tales of the Vulgar Unicorn, and Robert Jordan's Conan days. 4 stars.

Re-read. The writing still sucks, but I love the characters, even if they are cliche. But is Raistlin cliche, or did he become a cliche by his own coolness and a multitude of copycats?

A few good laughs. You can tell that one author largely wrote the beginning, the other the end. They did alright meshing, but there're obvious differences in style and theme. Not a bad way to spend a day. 3 stars.

Brilliant! I've read this two or three times now, and it never fails to please. Makes me want to read Beowulf again. 4 1/2 stars.
