On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and SocietyOn Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society by Dave Grossman

'On Combat,' in civilian clothes. Much thicker bibliography. Those not in the military, emergency response, and police sectors should read this instead of 'On Combat.'

Rome: The Complete First SeasonRome: The Complete First Season
Buy new: $32.49 / Used from: $22.90
Watched the first episode. Lots of gratuitous sex and female nudity. A decent plot line, keeping Octavian in an interesting place. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th episodes kept the good stuff coming. Really liking this series; less gratuitous elements as the story deepens. The last disc had a bizarre relationship between two female characters that just did NOT jive. Julius' murder was handled well. 4 stars.
The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (Oxford World's Classics)The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius Antoninus (Oxford World's Classics) by Marcus Aurelius

The last of the Philosopher Kings' journal. Lots of self-reflection and contemplation on what makes a person good, what makes them evil, and the stoic's view of death. Interesting.

Re-read. The writing still sucks, but I love the characters, even if they are cliche. But is Raistlin cliche, or did he become a cliche by his own coolness and a multitude of copycats?

A few good laughs. You can tell that one author largely wrote the beginning, the other the end. They did alright meshing, but there're obvious differences in style and theme. Not a bad way to spend a day. 3 stars.
