![]() | Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $0.01 ok, i read this because my wife did and when she finished she handed this to me and said, "read this, I wanna bitch about the ending." We had the same complaints, and then went and saw the movie and realized some of the finer parts of the book. I wonder what Golden's editor cut out, there was so much character development! Sometimes the plot didnt match up. 500ppg.

![]() | The Cave by Jose Saramago
Buy new: $9.89 / Used from: $0.47 I really like Saramago too. I have to be disappointed with anything Ive read of his. While this was not what one would call a fast-moving story, it was artfully crafted and I really appreciated it's many literary merits. 307ppg.

![]() | A Dirty Job: A Novel by Christopher Moore
Buy new: $18.96 / Used from: $0.59 this new Chirs Moore came out this year, and I waited to buy it until he came around on book tour! This may be one of his finest (up there with Lamb) as far as writing and creativity goes. He didnt let himself lapse too far into the bizarre, but kept it very imaginative and fun...light hearted with some deep stuff in there as well. It was nice getting a glimpse inside the authors life. 387ppg.
|
![]() | Cannery Row by John Steinbeck

|
![]() | Gravity's Rainbow (Classic, 20th-Century, Penguin) by Thomas Pynchon
Buy new: $12.92 / Used from: $2.89 Like Tristram Shandy, this was a bit of a dare to myself. I did enjoy it, and some of the post-modern stuff you just have to take like a magic eye poster...keep reading, blur your focus, and let IT come into focus for you. 760ppg
|
![]() | The Moon Is Down by John Steinbeck
Buy new: $9.23 / Used from: $1.62 well, after pynchon, anything would have been light...but with this I just needed a little (short) novelette to cleanse my palate, and figured I should keep going back to Steinbeck. He did not disappoint. 115ppg
|
![]() | The Areas of My Expertise by John Hodgman
Buy new: $10.08 / Used from: $0.01 this was just plain silly. fun, but silly. I give Hodgman a lot of credit though. He did, in fact, tell everyone that he was just going to make stuff up for as long as he could sustain it....and he did...and it was hysterical! 255ppg
|
![]() | The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
Buy new: $10.87 / Used from: $0.01 ok, so this was a bit of pop-fiction that I usually avoid...but was pleasantly surprised by. I enjoyed this in that it was well researched and written with a sense of erudition, without cramming it down the readers throat. 676ppg.

![]() | How to Talk Dirty and Influence People by Lenny Bruce
Buy new: $11.16 / Used from: $0.96 While Bruce impresses me as a performer, a writer, and a life in general, I found this book to be overly self-serving and lacking any real depth. Maybe I expected a little more than a humorous re-telling of his life to that point. I guess I had wanted more insight into his commentary and how he really sees the world in his own words. oh well. 188 ppg.
|
