![]() | Halloween
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $2.71 The original classic from John Carpenter that refined, if not invented, the slasher formula that so many others would follow.
![]() | Friday the 13th
Buy used from: $1.88 The one that started it all for me. I was hooked on slashers after this one. The first "summer camp slasher".
![]() | The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2-Disc Ultimate Edition)
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $3.58 The brutally unapologetic sadistic classic from Tobe Hooper.
![]() | Halloween II
Buy used from: $0.17 Nice sequel to the slasher magnum opus, and the first reference to Laurie Strode as Michael Myer's sister.
![]() | The Funhouse
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $3.99 Another Tobe Hooper classic. Kids getting offed by a disfigured carnival freak. One of the few slashers that actually evokes real empathy for the killer.
![]() | A Nightmare on Elm Street (Infinifilm Edition)
Buy new: $15.99 / Used from: $3.49 Tweaks the formula a bit, but a solid slasher with great scenery-chewing by Robert Englund.
![]() | Friday the 13th, Part 2
Buy used from: $1.97 Jason as an adult, taking over the reigns from Mom. The wheelchair kill stands out as well as the spear through the hammock. Interestingly, many of the kills in this flick are almost identical to those in the old Mario Bava proto-slasher "Twitch of the Death Nerve".
![]() | The Burning
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $5.98 Nice little Friday rip-off with great effects from Tom Savini and a must-see finger cutting scene.
![]() | My Bloody Valentine
Buy new: $7.99 / Used from: $1.97 A nice Canadian slasher, with some great gore.
![]() | Scream (Dimension Collector's Series)
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $2.00 The one that started the horror movie revival from Wes Craven. Self-aware and smart.
![]() | Alone in the Dark
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $3.99 The one with Donald Pleasance, Martin Landau, and Jack Palance, not the crappy video game movie. Lunatics from an asylum go after their therapist and his family. The mailman scene is worth the price of admission.
![]() | The Prowler
Buy new: $17.49 / Used from: $9.81 Fairly formulaic, but with some nice kills and Savini effects.
![]() | Madman
Buy used from: $39.99 No budget slasher with a nice foreboding atmosphere and some real scares.
![]() | Final Exam
Buy used from: $40.99 Very kill-by-the-numbers derivative slasher, but it has a charm to it and more character development than the average slasher. And the terrorist attack fraternity prank is just jaw dropping in present day context.
