![]() | The Virgin Spring - Criterion Collection
Buy new: $31.99 / Used from: $22.95 Bergman use of light is wonderful. His way of conveying the complexity of religion via metaphor is fascinating too. I picked the Virgin Spring because not only is it the birth of the revenge movie, it also has some strong old ways vs. Christianity themes in it.
![]() | Metropolitan - Criterion Collection
Buy new: $29.99 / Used from: $22.95 Whit Stillman, king of the "talkling" movie. He has a lot of wit. My favorite is about the class struggle of normal joes vs. the socialites.
![]() | The Early Films of Peter Greenaway: The Falls
Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $14.99 This might be the most awesome movie I have ever seen. A great idea, funny and looooooong. Connects with A Zed and Two Noughts, the Tulse Luper Trilogy and just about everything else he has done.
![]() | Blue Velvet (Special Edition)
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $5.21 David Lynch. You either love him or hate him, such is his greatness. Blue Velvet is still the standout for me, despite me loving most of the movies and TV he has directed.

![]() | The Films of Kenneth Anger, Vol. 2
Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $19.27 Anger's Lucifer Rising is a neat mix of 60's cult film, magic with a K and psychedelic trip. He has similar films that are good, but this is his magnum opus.

![]() | Orlando
Buy used from: $43.49 Sally Potter is the first woman director on my list. I like a lot of movies made by female directors, yet very few of them can make names for themselves. Though I like her later films, this one is the best book adaptation I have experienced.
![]() | Titus
Buy new: $10.49 / Used from: $5.84 Julie Taymor's work is very expressive, dark and dank, then bright and lovely. Titus is my favorite Shakespeare movie to date.
![]() | Requiem for a Vampire

![]() | Brazil - The Criterion Collection (3-Disc Boxed Set)
Buy new: $53.99 / Used from: $29.87 Brazil is one of those movies you could watch over as soon as you are done with it. Get this set because the movie has been remastered in this version and it's lovely to look at, never mind the terror...I always thought it had a happy ending, weird odd me. I also like most of his work, 12 Monkeys and Time Bandits stick out strongly for me.

![]() | Fellini's Roma
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $4.75 I don't understand much of Fellini's work and downright hate a lot of it, but Roma is wonderful. The part where they find the ruins that fall apart once they are exposed to humans and air really touched me.
![]() | Videodrome - Criterion Collection
Buy new: $28.99 / Used from: $15.61 Maybe you have to grow up in the 80's to appreciate David Cronenberg's work. I know many people who can't stand his movies. He has a lot of good ideas about how technology affects humans.

![]() | The Decameron
Buy used from: $6.46 Ok, I could have put Salo here. But to say Salo is your favorite film is probably a sick thing, so here is a happy film. How he could make the happiest and most depressing films Italy and the world have ever seen makes him a genius.
![]() | Europa - Criterion Collection
Buy new: $32.49 / Used from: $23.99 Finally out on DVD!!!! Yeah, it is released the same day as The Dark Knight, though I try to tell people "hey Europa is coming out!" I like The Kingdom too, this is just the best Von Trier experience you will ever get. I also liked Dear Wendy about mods and guns.
