You must get this on video. Unlike many live shows where actually seeing the performance makes the music less enjoyable (by whittling at your imagination), this one is a visual treat. Starting out with the flat out frightening performance of "Who Do You Love" by Ronnie Hawkins. Plus Levon Helm's dry-witted narration to enhancing the relationships between The Band and the guest artists.

Emmylou democratically covers the span of country and WESTERN (yes she remembers it isn't JUST country) from Steve Earle to the Sons of the Pioneers. Very hot backing band. Try the VHS tape too

Another effort by Ry to turn us all into musicollegists, Terry Evans and Bobby King on soulful vocals, sometimes taking the lead, Flaco Jimenez on tex-mex accordian, and so on. Turn it up loud and enjoy!!

Aha, at last, there are some copies out there of this great live work of raw R&R. The reggae-fied multiple lead vocals "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" is a show stopper.

As with many of my choices, this is another example of a core band augmented by various talented guest singers, the most notable being Ivory joe Hunter ("Since I Met You Baby," a staple of 60's radio) and Esther Phillips. Johnny's guitar phenom som Shuggie also rounds out the bunch. Robust band including a great horn section. Hard to find, get it when and while you can.

To me, easily the best live Traffic album. Includes contributions by Dave Mason who wandered in and out of the group, and a cracker jack version of "Gimme Some Lovin." In other words, early Traffic era stuff and even "pre-Traffic" before the vocal diversity gave way to instrumental jams. Not that there aren't some good long jams here, but they "rock" better than most.

Despite the less-than-stellar period recording and a lot of "testifyin'" at the beginning, this is a killer set, not only because of the early career sparks from Ms. Tina but also because of the excellent contributions of the other vocalists involved here. Minor quibble: all the guests perform right in a row, spread throughout would have been better.

One catch, I'm not sure this is a LIVE album, but you won't know the difference. You MUST get this. Originally released on the "Accordians That Shook the World" label (seriously). Abdel Aziz looks and performs like a Morrocan Jackie Wilson in a turban, gold lame jacket and all. Can't understand one word he's singing but no need to!! One look at the picture of the band and you have the idea.

Part of this was originally available in the US as one side of the LP "Having a Rave Up with the Yardbirds," it is now available in numerous forms. To my knowledge, this one has the most live sections among the available CD's out there.

There are other releases of their live material from this period which contain more material, but this one is better produced. Papa John Creach's fiddle often functions as the lead instrument for the band, in place of the lead guitar. (NOTE: IF THIS IS UNAVAILABLE, GET "LAST FLIGHT")

Oh sure, there are other albums out there by the Boss with more recognizable hits, but this one avoids the items you've heard til you drop, and hits the spot.

Sadly the VHS tape of Otis live on the UK TV show "Ready Steady Go" seems to be in hibernation, so this is as close as we can come. If you can grab the VHS though, you will have the added enjoyment of Otis non-stop sweaty steaming performance accompanied by British ladies in fringe and go go boots trying (unsuccessfully) to keep up.

Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell and others provide what (I think) Pink Floyd material often needs, which is more distinctive vocals.

Exene, John Doe et al give us a long set of their best material "plus."
