![]() | Dawn of the Dead (Ultimate Edition)
Buy new: $37.49 / Used from: $12.00 Where Night of the Living Dead was the movie that hooked me into the genre...the original version of Dawn of the Dead stole my heart. To me this is George Romero's best work!

![]() | 28 Days Later (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $1.16 This is not really, strictly a zombie movie. However, the disease suffered by the infected closely approximates the living dead plague. Along with Shaun of the Dead, and the Dawn of the Dead remake this movie is part of the zombie movie renaissance.
This movie is creepy, fast paced, and very well done. It can be spoken of as a good movie not just a good "zombie" movie.

![]() | The Return of the Living Dead
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $4.31 TRLD is my secret vice. I have seen this movie at least 100 times and I still howl at the same scenes over and over again! After seeing this I decided that the zombie movie was the height of the horror and comedy genre!

![]() | Shaun of the Dead
Buy new: $7.49 / Used from: $3.71 Hilarious. Original. Almost Perfect. The best thing out of England in a long time! (since 28 Days later)
|
![]() | Dawn of the Dead (Widescreen Unrated Director's Cut)
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $1.25 The update of the classic was a fast paced, action packed thrill ride. While I may not love the whole "fast zombie" thing... it is a forgivable offense. The zombie genre owes a debt of gratitude to the DotD remake for helping Hollywood realize that zombie fans were willing to pay to see more good zombie action.

![]() | Night of the Living Dead
Buy new: $8.49 / Used from: $2.87 Don't hate me for choosing the Savini remake, the b&w original is good too but this was my first real foray into the world of zombies. This movie was my hook into the genre... and so it holds a special place in my heart.

![]() | Army of Darkness
Buy used from: $5.42 Today considered a classic this 3rd film in the Evil Dead Trilogy hits all the right notes. Bruce Campbell is a genius and the medieval action rocks.
|
![]() | Undead
Buy new: $11.49 / Used from: $1.65 Fun action packed zombie mayhem...in Australia! Great movie that didn't get much pub.
|
![]() | George A. Romero's Land of the Dead (Unrated Director's Cut)
Buy new: $4.99 / Used from: $0.85 This one may not have been a huge hit and sure the story has some flaws but the action is great and the acting is superb; with Simon Baker, John Leguizamo, Anthony Hopper, and legendary horror screamstress Asia Argento.
|
![]() | Evil Dead II
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $3.01 Tom Raimi's first fully funded foray into the horror world with his good buddy Bruce Campbell. Great flick!
|
![]() | Night of the Comet
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $6.97 A little known pic from the height of the 1980's "B" movie explosion. It's fun, fast paced and lives out some of the dreams of what you would do in a world empty of people. Also, it's got Tchakote from Star Trek Voyager!
|
![]() | Return of the Living Dead Part II
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $6.68 Not as strong as the first "Return" but still had its pluses. Loaded with laughs...and great zombie gore.
|
![]() | 28 Weeks Later (Widescreen Edition)
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $1.75 This sequel to 28 Days Later is much more traditional in termns of "zombie" style action and plot speed. The movie is more focused on mayhem then story...this film focuses more on pleasing it's zombie fan audience with pure action packed scariness.
|
![]() | Day of the Dead (Divimax Special Edition)
Buy new: $17.49 / Used from: $7.47 The third film in Romero's "Dead" trilogy, it is also the weakest of the ventures (limited funding hurt it's chances). However, it easily bests its action packed remake which boasts actors Nick Cannon, Ving Rhames, and Mena Suvari who all turn in less than stellar performances.
|
![]() | Resident Evil Trilogy 1-3
Buy new: $24.49 / Used from: $12.63 At the 15 spot I decided to treat the Resident Evil series as one film. The first film is really well done but lacks for zombie chaos. The second movie stinks but ups the ante using a crazy HUGE zombie monster for much of its carnage. The third movie is probably the best when it comes to zombie mayhem but lacks the creepiness and originality of the first movie.
