Kruschev may have thought him spineless, but Kennedy forced him to back down & averted nuclear holocaust. For that he earns a spot in the top 10.

Civil Rights and the Great Society - Domestic Policy was his strength. Foreign Affairs were his weakness as evidenced by the escalation of the Vietnam War.

Presided over unparalled prosperity after the war, was tough against the Cold War. A very good President

Frequently credited with ending the cold war, his fiscal policies nearly bankrupted the country. A feel-good President for a feel-good America.

An unexpected entry this high, he ranks well because of his political activism

If not for his paranoia (leading to Watergate & his resignation), Nixon had the makings of a great President. Foreign Relations were his strong suit (normalizing relations with PRC, for example)

Certainly a footnote to history as the only President to serve non-consecutive terms. He was, however, a very honest President.

A Crossover President, he started the United States on the path to internationalism. Many of his foreign policy goals were carried out by his successor, Theodore Roosevelt.
