![]() | Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $4.99 What a great film this one is! It one of the (British) Hammer series with Peter Cushing and is very well-done. You'll enjoy the great color and letterbox format. A classy horror film -- don't pass this one by.
![]() | Sky King:Vol 1 TV Series
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $2.62 Sky King (Kirby Grant) was my favorite 50s TV western Saturday morning show. There are 4 B&W episodes on this DVD. Hopefully there will be more to come.
![]() | The Roy Rogers Show, Vol. 1
I'm not going to list each and every volume of this series (there are 6 DVDs available) because they're all just great and include Dale Evans, Pat Brady, Trigger, Bullet (the dog), and Nellybelle (the Jeep). I knew Roy on a personal level and he was truly "The King of the Cowboys".
![]() | Ramar of the Jungle - Volume One
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $0.78 Again, I'm not going to list every volume of this series (Eleven, plus a feature film, are available) but they are all just super entries. Ramar is a "Jungle Jim" type that's always fixing jungle problems, usually by eliminating some rotten bad guy.
![]() | East Side Kids - Spooks Run Wild
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $1.72 One of my favorite Bela Lugosi films. Juvenile delinquents (the East Side Kids, with Leo Gorcey and Huntz Hall), are taken to a rehab camp in the country where they get involved with an apparent psychopathic monster (Lugosi) in a creepy old mansion. Lots of fun! B&W.
![]() | The Lone Ranger and the Lost City Of Gold
Buy used from: $4.42 I think that this is the absolute best Lone Ranger movie ever. The locations are incredible and it's shot in color. Of course, The Lone Ranger and Tonto save the day, but only after they have to endure and deal with a bunch of trouble-making scoundrels.
![]() | Voodoo Island/The Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake (Midnite Movies Double Feature)
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $2.49 You get a double whammy with this one but "Voodoo Island" is the real treasure here. This is probably the only time you'll see Boris Karloff NOT playing the monster... and he does a super job. A great B&W film, shot in letterbox, and with a super atmospheric filmscore by Les Baxter.
![]() | House on Haunted Hill/The Last Man On Earth
Buy new: $3.95 / Used from: $0.19 This is the copy that you want because it's the only version in letterbox format -- most of the others are "panned and scanned" for TV -- plus you get a great second Vincent Price film. Forget the remake of this one -- this original is one of the greatest horror films of all time! My personal favorite.
![]() | Radar Men From the Moon, Vol. 1
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $2.74 You have to buy both DVDs to get the full serial (total 168 minutes) -- this one is so awful that it's great! The producers just simply ignored the fact that there's no atmosphere on the moon.... and a lot of other actualities as well. Still, it's all great fun. B&W, 1952.
![]() | Never So Few
Buy used from: $1.89 What a lineup of superstars in a great WW II film! Frank Sinatra, Charles Bronson, Gina Lollobrigida, Steve McQueen, Peter Lawford, Dean Jones and many more. The filmscore is incredible (Hugo Friedhofer) -- and tons of (studio) green shiny plants. Great color and shot in letterbox.
![]() | Nyoka and the Tigermen [VHS]
Buy used from: $6.54 This one is on VHS but it's a truly great serial. Fighting between African natives, arabs, Jungle Jim and Jane-types, along with horses, old station wagons, trained gorillas, and super locations (lots of caves!), all contibute to make this serial one of the best. Shot in very good B&W. I converted mine to DVD.
![]() | Unknown Island
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $5.66 I had not seen this one until it came out on DVD. It's shot in "Cinecolor" which looks like a "two-strip" process, but it adds a lot to the overall ambiance. This is sort of a King Kong rip-off with no central monster. This is a fine film which should have been running a lot on TV but never did.
![]() | Sherlock Holmes - The House of Fear
Buy new: $18.49 / Used from: $11.29 This is an excellent print of this fine film. It's my favorite of the Basil Rathbone Series.
![]() | Sherlock Holmes - The Hound of the Baskervilles
Buy new: $17.49 / Used from: $9.25 This is the print that you want -- crystal clear. And, this is the film that kicked off the Basil Rathbone series and is truly a fine rendition of Conan Doyle's siganature tale.
![]() | Sundown
Buy new: $9.99 / Used from: $2.28 An excellent B&W War Intrigue film with great locations. Gene Tierney and George Sanders made for perfect casting.
![]() | Beat the Devil
Buy used from: $0.79 The Humphrey Bogart film you never saw! Here we have a great B&W film with an all-star cast, including Peter Lorre. It's a search for lost treasure with assorted scoundrels, all fighting to get there first. There are some rather strange camera angles but I think it's because it's basically a foreign film, clearly shot on location.
![]() | Charlie Chan: Castle in the Desert [VHS]
Buy used from: $2.95 Unfortunately, to get this on DVD, you have to buy a whole Charlie Chan set. BUT, this film is the very best of all Charlie Chan flicks. Here we have great cinematography, awesome locations, perfect casting, old cars, and atmosphere galore. One of my top five films of all genres.
![]() | Drums of Fu Manchu (1940) [VHS]
Buy used from: $9.95 A Republic serial with 15 chapters, 269 minutes total of pure mystery and intrigue. It's B&W, shot in 1940 and it's truly a "cliffhanger". I love it.
![]() | Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe Volumes 1 & 2
Buy new: $14.98 / Used from: $0.20 This is the Saturday morning serial that features Buster Crabbe as the greatest Flash Gordon ever. Charles Middleton, who plays Ming the Merciless, is priceless. Shot in B&W, 1940, for a total of 12 chapters.
![]() | Mystery Mountain
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $2.64 The Ken Maynard serial in 12 chapters that wasn't shown a great deal after it's initial release. There simply are not enough of the old "Western Mysteries".
![]() | The Phantom Empire, Vol. 1
Buy used from: $5.47 This is the first of the two DVDs that you'll want. It's been cut in other prints and titled "Radio Ranch" and other titles. Autry's best -- western sci-fi. Incredible stuff!
![]() | The Phantom Empire, Vol. 2
Buy new: $6.98 / Used from: $1.66 The second (conclusion) of The Phantom Empire serial. Both DVDs total 244 minutes. Watch for other edited versions!
![]() | The Mummy
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $3.41 In my opinion, this Hammer Film version of The Mummy is the classiest and the very best one. Peter Cushing brings this fine color film to the pinnacle of the horror genre.
![]() | Hatari!
Buy new: $8.49 / Used from: $3.76 My favorite John Wayne film. Bulging with stars, a super location, incredible color, a great filmscore (Henry Mancini), and much more. This great flick is chock-full of atmosphere. One of my top 10.
![]() | The Clutching Hand
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $2.77 A fifteen chapter serial with tons of action. It's all about The Clutching Hand (who controls a vast criminal network) trying to steal the secret formula for synthetic gold! B&W.
![]() | David and Bathsheba
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $6.64 Super Biblical epic starring Gregory Peck and Susan Hayward. Color, but unfortunately not in letterbox. From Twentieth Century Fox, this is a very well-done film, produced by Darryl F. Zanuck.
![]() | Jungle Girl - Serial
Buy new: $17.99 / Used from: $13.44 Frances Gifford was the ultimate Jungle Jane-type. Plenty of action in this B&W 15 chapter serial, based (very loosely!) upon Edgar Rice Burroughs stories.
![]() | Lost City
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $3.59 Starring William "Stage" Boyd and George "Gabby" Hayes. Do-gooders trek into the dark jungle to unhinge a mad doctor who's about to destroy the world with his crazy machines. Plenty of actions and great locations. Lots of fights in caves.
![]() | The Devil Bat
Buy used from: $2.95 Here we have a "Horror-Mystery," which works very well indeed. This is a Lugosi film that never saw much air time until lately, and it's one of his best!
![]() | Dementia 13
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $2.04 Bill Campbell once told me that only he and Patrick Magee got paid on this film, they made it so cheap. It's a truly great Roger Corman/Francis Ford Cuppola co-op film, shot in B&W. Weird family members meet at creepy Castle Haloran (the homeplace) to carry out an ancestral rite and gruesome murder follows. One of the best!
![]() | The Cabinet of Caligari
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $5.87 Forget the remake -- this is the great one. Shot in widescreen and B&W, we have a sleeper of a psychological thriller. This great film helped to support the sagging "Cleopatra" which was gulping down millions of studio dollars. A woman is trapped in a modern home with a mad doctor.
![]() | Mr. Moto's Last Warning
Buy new: $7.98 / Used from: $1.13 Peter Lorre represents the pinnacle of suspense and intrigue in film. As Mr. Moto, Japanese International Detective, he was at his best. This is a fine B&W film. They're all trying to kill Mr. Moto!
![]() | Mr. and Mrs. North, Vol. 1
Buy used from: $1.99 There are 8 volumes of these TV flicks, 3 episodes to a DVD. The Lockridges wrote the original mysteries and the Norths can be reasonably compared to the more popular Peter Lawford's "Thin Man" series. Great stuff -- 1/2 hour episodes!
![]() | Cleopatra
Buy new: $15.99 / Used from: $10.44 The sprawling epic of all time, on 2 DVDs in one set. Shot in Color, letterbox, this saga of conflict in Egypt and Rome is well-told and the combo of Elizabeth Taylor, Rex Harrison and Richard Burton made this film the Numer One Film of all-time for me. It was the most expensive movie ever made.
![]() | The Mummy
Buy new: $13.49 / Used from: $6.50 This is the original and a darn good old film.Even though we can't see much of him, Karloff is at his very best here. B&W, 114 minutes.
![]() | Sherlock Holmes: Terror by Night
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $5.50 Get this print of this fine film. It's my second favorite in the Basil Rathbone series of Sherlock Holmes films. A valuable diamond is stolen on an overnight London to Scotland train and murder swiftly follows!
![]() | Sherlock Holmes - Dressed to Kill
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $27.82 A fine entry in the Basil Rathbone, Nigel Bruce, series of Sherlock Holmes films. Holmes hastens to track down a certain music box for which people are being selectively murdered. It contains the secret of the location of valuable bank plates.
![]() | Sherlock Holmes in Pursuit To Algiers
Buy new: $17.49 / Used from: $10.28 Watson (Nigel Bruce) comes through to save Holmes (Basil Rathbone) in this fine series entry. The action takes place on a ship and there are plenty of shifty characters and murder. This excellent mystery film doesn't see much air time for some sad reason.
![]() | Bhowani Junction [VHS]
Buy used from: $16.42 Not available yet on DVD, you'll have to settle for the VHS version. This was an epic book which yielded a fine color film. It's the story of the Brits as their colonial time was ending in India. An all-star cast that you'll love. Plenty of intrigue and suspense. Great locations!
![]() | Charlie Chan - The Jade Mask [VHS]

Creepy house, stolen secret formula, shady characters, buffoon of a sheriff, Charlie's goofy son, The Great Mantan Moreland providing comedic moments, and MURDER. Charlie solves it all. B&W, 66 minutes of sheer pleasure.
