So Bad They're Goodies! Unintentionally farcical films

The Slime PeopleThe Slime People
Buy used from: $13.39
The characters are not, as one VHS sleeve screams, "trapped in a wall of goo", but only in a hilariously silly script under the slapdash direction of one of the actors. The suasions sometimes seem as foggy as the settings and the rubber-suit slime people more believable than the human protagonists.

Arch Hall Sr. probably spent more on junior's $5000 hot rod than on the production of this frivolous flick about car-stripping boys gone bad. Though a few actual actors are employed, the scripting, direction, and cinematography are so shoddy that what emerges is a morass of unintended parody.

In TDTWI, a motley gaggle survives The Big One in a flimsy house between lead-ored hills that hold off radiation. Maybe lead (or tin foil) hats were also in order, since everyone speaks so incoherently. (Oh, it's just the script!) And there's a papier-mache monster lurking nearby. In TSC, it's silly circumstances involving a villainous hypnotist and rubber-suited marine monster.

Surely, someone could have found a better film project for Frank Lovejoy, Lee Marvin, and Terry Moore. But, no, they put them in this oddly titled, charactered, and paced piece about a slovenly roadhouse cook engaged in commie espionage. Well, the reds may have lost the Cold War, but we all can salvage some laughs from flicks like this one.
Bad Georgia Road [VHS]Bad Georgia Road [VHS]

NYC sophisticate Carol Lynley, effete beau in tow, takes heir to a moonshine/bootleg op run by oversexed redneck Gary Lockwood and his preachy pard Royal Dano. Lynley's performance is like a one-take read off badly written cue cards, while Lockwood all but eats the scenery with his caveman antics. Dano was apparently told to act overwrought and did.
The Devil Thumbs a Ride & Having Wonderful Crime (Double Feature)The Devil Thumbs a Ride & Having Wonderful Crime (Double Feature)
Buy used from: $49.99
In The Devil Thumbs a Ride, always terrific tough guy Lawrence Tierney is somehow unsullied by all the silliness that permeates this little-known noir about a stone killer on the lam. Why the film's creators chose to inject sappy situations, fraught with double entendre, into a plot about a sociopath is anybody's guess. (Review on imdb)
Jail Bait (1954)Jail Bait (1954)
Buy new: $9.99
What can be said about Ed Wood and a bank account? It's like a monkey with a gun. Even the title of this mind-bogglingly bad flick makes no sense. It's not some smarmy piece about overripe Southern honeys or underage biker chicks, but a yuck-inducing yarn about a killer on the run.
Voodoo Island/The Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake (Midnite Movies Double Feature)Voodoo Island/The Four Skulls of Jonathan Drake (Midnite Movies Double Feature)
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $3.96
(Voodoo Island) It's not the Caribbean, but there's some kind of mojo working on this Polynesian isle of mysterious natives and murderous flora. The cast is competent, but apparently some opted to drown in the dippy plot. One exception is Jean Engstrom, who delivers an amazing under-the-radar rendition of a lesbian. (Review on imdb)
Teenage Gang Debs / Teen-Age StranglerTeenage Gang Debs / Teen-Age Strangler
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $5.87
(Teen-Age Strangler) Women are being murdered in the little city of Huntington, WV. But the important action is at a teen hangout, where songs like Yipes, Stripes! are being performed and promoted. Some people are biased toward this flick. I know a few. I live right across the river. (Review on imdb)
Icons of Horror Collection - Sam Katzman (The Giant Claw / Creature with the Atom Brain / Zombies of Mora Tau / The Werewolf)Icons of Horror Collection - Sam Katzman (The Giant Claw / Creature with the Atom Brain / Zombies of Mora Tau / The Werewolf)
Buy new: $20.99 / Used from: $17.29
(The Giant Claw) This otherwise routine 50's sci/fi flick is farcically bad only because of its turkey-like monster. The slapsticky sight of its saurian maw snapping up people, trains, and skyscraper tops is definitely worth a watch. (Review on imdb)
High School Confidential [VHS]High School Confidential [VHS]
Buy used from: $2.99
The demon weed has already wheedled its way onto campus, and now a teacher-harrassing hepcat makes the scene! The situations are silly and the social message spurious. CRAZY!
Panic in Year Zero/The Last Man on EarthPanic in Year Zero/The Last Man on Earth
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $5.21
(Panic in the Year Zero!) The theme is supposed to be civilized versus uncivilized behavior, but it seems instead to be dumb versus dumber behavior. The world is in the throes of nuclear war, but people are more concerned with the price of groceries and maintenance of proper hygiene!

It's the farmer's niece this go-'round, 'n' she's a lady, but them bodacious blonde floosies from over the way aint--no siree! A no-account man is stirrin' this witch's brew nigh to boilin', 'n' it's up to a drifter to stop 'im!
