![]() | The Stalking Moon
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $13.10 An excellent Peck western. He's at his best as a strong, sensitive loner. This suspenseful drama has excellent location shots, interesting supporting characters and a face-paced plot. It's weak in the casting of the boy, however.
Does not make four stars due to stereotypic portrayl of Native Americans.

![]() | McLintock! (Authentic Collector's Edition)
Buy new: $12.49 / Used from: $6.47 Yes, of course it's silly and yes, the script is limited, but I can't resist the great comedic chemistry between Wayne and O'Hara. They are joined by a terrific supporting cast. A side plot jabs at the U.S. treatment of Indians.

![]() | The Sons of Katie Elder
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $4.93 A Wayne classic, in my opinion. He and Dean Martin are great fun to watch together. There are nice comedic turns in an otherwise suspenseful and sentimental plot line. Good soundtrack, too.

![]() | Open Range
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $1.65 Not as appreciated as it should be, Open Range has terrific characterizations, fantastic scenery, wonderful supporting cast, moving soundtrack AND Kevin Costner paired with Annette Benning. This is an excellent movie.

![]() | The Searchers (John Wayne Collection)
Buy new: $5.79 / Used from: $4.30 Arguably the best western ever made. I love the moodiness of the movie, the flawed lead characters, the scenery, and the untold love story between Ethan (Wayne) and his brother's wife.
|
![]() | Rio Grande
Buy new: $9.98 / Used from: $4.38 Yes, I will admit I am suckered in by the love story with O'Hara and Wayne, but there is much more to like about this moody movie. Director Ford draws rich characterizations. Chuckles are guaranteed. Authentic, traditional music fills the soundtrack.

![]() | Stagecoach
Buy used from: $4.99 A classic in it's uniqueness. Especially of it's time. John Ford changed the way westerns were made with this movie. An excellent ensemble of characters.
|
![]() | Lonesome Dove
Buy used from: $7.49 If richly drawn characters make great movies, it doesn't get greater than this. Superb acting, authentic style, gritty undertone, timeless love stories. Better even on repeat viewings. Near Perfection in my view.

![]() | The Gunfighter Collector's Edition
Buy new: $7.95 / Used from: $3.57 One of Peck's favorite performances. He dons a mustache and portrays a retiring gun-for-hire that is nursing regrets. Excellent cast. Smart direction. Moving story line.
|
![]() | The Big Country
Buy new: $9.49 / Used from: $5.63 Another personal favorite of Peck's. He is so dynamic and at his best. A bit of overacting (Chuck Conners), and there is great acting (Burl Ives), but Peck is the centerpiece.
|
![]() | Rio Bravo (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $5.01 An all time favorite for me. I enjoy nearly every character in this movie, so most of the scenes are very good. Where Hawks (director) is weak is in the dialogue department, especially with women. This is a recurring issue in his movies, in my opinion.
|
![]() | Silverado
Buy used from: $1.94 Excellent ensemble, so much fun, terrific dialogue, great action. I love this movie. Kevin Kline is the heart, Scott Glenn the rational one, Kevin Costner young and rambunctious (a rarity for him) and Danny Glover, Linda Hunt, so many others. All are great.
