My Generation (Dlx) (Dig)My Generation (Dlx) (Dig) by Who
Buy new: $29.98 / Used from: $11.20
Unpolished, energetic first album by an amazing band.
A Quick One (Happy Jack)A Quick One (Happy Jack) by The Who
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $3.98
The Who move into pop territory without losing their edge. Best known for the "mini-opera," A Quick One While He's Away.
The Who Sell OutThe Who Sell Out by The Who
Buy new: $8.99 / Used from: $3.00
The Who move further into the realm of pop, perhaps a little self-comsciously; hence, the "Sell Out" sobriquet and the commercials between songs. Features the incomparable "I Can See For Miles," as well as "Underture" (from Tommy) themes in the song "Rael."
TommyTommy by The Who
Buy new: $12.99 / Used from: $6.86
Great songs played to perfection. Moon is amazing. A watershed moment in rock music.
Live At Leeds [Deluxe Edition]Live At Leeds [Deluxe Edition] by The Who
Buy new: $26.99 / Used from: $14.95
The Who at their unvarnished best. The examplar for what live albums should be.
Who's NextWho's Next by The Who
Buy new: $10.99 / Used from: $4.25
The album most fans cite as their favorite, and it truly is an achievement. Not a bad song on it. With the amazing Glyn Johns as producer.
QuadropheniaQuadrophenia by The Who
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $11.25
Ambitious - some say too ambitious - double record concept album from 1974 or thereabouts. I think it's a good concept and a really listenable album.
Odds & SodsOdds & Sods by The Who
Buy new: $13.98 / Used from: $6.48
Odd lots assemblage of tracks that were just lying around, Odds and Sods is a surprisngly cohesive mix of material.
The Who by NumbersThe Who by Numbers by The Who
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $8.78
Squeeze Box (amusing though it is) notwithstanding, this album features some of Townshend's best writing.
Who Are YouWho Are You by The Who
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.99
The last album on which Keith Moon features. Who Are You is another solid offering, with nary a wasted moment.
Face DancesFace Dances by The Who
Buy new: $11.98 / Used from: $4.39
Kenny Jones fills in nicely for Keith Moon, but, naturally enough, some of the fire is gone from the band. There's not a bad song on this album, and some are excellent (Don't Let Go the Coat, Daily Records), but the effect isn't quite the same. How could it be?
It's HardIt's Hard by The Who
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $7.22
The Who soldier on, and this is a competently rendered piece of work, but, by this point, the lustre has faded a bit. That said, for many other bands this would be the best they could muster, and it's not something you'd have to be embarassed for owning.
