This is my favorite Tiesto mix, hands down. It always gets me movin'. This was the pinnacle of the trance scene, before it (and Tiesto himself) became so commercial and, at times, a cheesy caricature of its former self.

An often overlooked but classic double-disc mix by the trancemaster.

This is still one of my favorites - it's got such great funky, danceable beats, breaks and vocals. A must have!

Gabriel and Dresden never seem disappoint me. This is a pithy artist album I can listen to again and again. Other than the fiercely popular "Tracking Treasure Down" and "Dangerous Power", the track "Closer" is my personal fav and a real mover.

If you don't own this yet, what's wrong with you? This is dance music for your brain as much as your feet.

Okay, this disc holds a special place in my life, introducing me to Ableton Live. It is also a classic, so musically diverse for a house/trance artist and a great chilled groove disc to play for your friends that don't exactly like 'techno'. Very smart music and expertly mixed.

This album is like the Beatles' white album. Even if you don't like electronica or dance music, you will love this album. Such a classic. Will chill you to the bones and sooth your soul at the same time.

Again, what is Bjork doing on this list? Well, Homegenic is her most electronically influenced album and has some stellar tracks for the tech-heads. Plus, Bjork is probably my favorite female vocalist - her unique voice and vocal style is almost unmatched and has a way of both giving you chills and making you want to dance.

BT's first work and a defining moment in the formation of trance (esp. dream trance). Blue Skies was one of my first introductions to trance and therefore has a special place in my collection.

Any of the Dream Dance series will give you a mixed bag. It's nice to get the original, usually radio friendly, tracks that you hear in the biggest mixes at the moment. Some tracks will be epic, others cheesy or blase. In general, anything from Dream Dance is worth the import price - anything from Water Music Dance (label) is of similar style and quality.

Definitely a guilty pleasure, Milk Inc. are one of those groups that epitomize euro vocal trance that dominates European dance radio. Not for everyone, but if you appreciate catchy, poppy, vocal trance, this pick offers a wide selection.

I wonder what Patrick Swayze thinks of this group? Whatever the name, these lush breaks and beats are a perfect respite from bangin', redundant trance.

I think I'd love any group that goes around costumed as LED-expressive robots, and no one really knows what they look like without their technological guise. But this album is funky and pop-friendly and I defy anyone to sit still listening to it.

Orbital was there at the beginning of dance music's rebirth in the early 90s. The epic track "Halcyon and On and On" was used through film in the mid-90s (think of the opening scenes in Hackers) and is still relevant today.

Anything Hooverphonic will please the chill/trip-hop crowd.

Iceland has nurtured some creative musical talents (a la Bjork and Sigur Ros), and Gus Gus is another great example.

The trio known as Above and Beyond are indeed kings in the realm of popular trance, and their first artist album was much anticipated. It falls a little short for me--not exactly what I expected (which was epic), but it's still a great album.
