With unrivalled breadth and exhaustive detail, it covers all major championships and races throughout the world, beginning with the first automobile competition held over a century ago. When the first edition of The International Motor Racing Guide was published in 1995, it quickly established itself as an indispensable reference for journalists and motorsports enthusiasts alike. Now in this revised and updated second edition, author Peter Higham offers over 40 percent new and enhanced content. Among the expanded sections are Formula 1 (including all non-championship races), NASCAR Winston Cup, CART, Indy Racing League, and all major series past and present. Editorial Reviews
From Booklist
Building on the success of the previous edition (The Guinness Guide to International Motor Racing [Motorbooks, 1995]), Higham's volume is an unrivaled reference work on motorcar racing at its upper echelons, from stock cars to the highly specialized machines of Formula 1 and the Indianapolis 500.
The first sections provide details on the history and rules of 20 different races, leagues, and championship series. Each section offers a year-by-year summary of top finishers, an overview of the season, and overall records for all drivers in each race they started in the league or series under consideration. The author has done a fine job of covering all the major American, European, and international series from Formula 3000 and ProCar up through Formula 1 and NASCAR. Effectively, this includes all major and many more minor established professional racing series and events.
In the section titled "Racing around the World," the author compiles information about every major racing venue. The section is organized by country, and for each venue, information about different configurations, changes to the course over time, and winners of major races are given. Also included are basic statistics of each course, Web addresses, and graphical depictions.
The last section of the volume is an alphabetical listing of drivers. Higham's criteria for inclusion are quite broad and bring in many drivers who did no more than attempt to qualify for a major event. Each driver entry includes date and place of birth and a listing of starts within established major series along with the driver's record overall within that series. The very last page of the volume is a brief but helpful bibliography of works about racing, including titles of important magazines and media guides as well as books and a few Web sites.
This volume is highly recommended for any library serving fans who would like to have detailed information about the sport of motor racing. Public, high-school, and academic libraries will find it to be a fine addition to their collections. RBB

Trouble ahead
The trouble with this kind of data book is that it's already dated one minute before it's published. This book covers up until 2002 and, as you know, were already at 2007...
Also, in the Internet age all thsi data can easily be obtained in a lot of web sites. Of course, this kind of book has the advantage of displaying the data in a friendly manner and within only one tome.
Well, anyway, make up your own mind...
Absolutely priceless
It seems that Mr. Higham has spent years searching through dusty basements and smelly photo archives to assemble all of this information. If you're interesed in finding out who won what when, this is the book for you. A bit mind-numbing really, as there is so much information gathered here that it is overwhelming.
For the serious anorak, there is nothing like this volume!
Highly recommended.
