. The period from 1861-1865 proved to be one of the greatest periods of trial and suffering in our nations history. A significant lapse of time had passed since America had engaged in the horrors of war. After the war of 1812, little memory remained of the fact that war could be hell. A veteran of the war with Mexico, General Stonewall Jackson wrote to his wife and said, People who are anxious to bring on war don t know what they are bargaining for; they don t see all the horrors that must accompany such an event.

Battlefields & Blessings a truly unforgettable means to contemplate God with each new dawn.
Compiled by Baptist pastor and Civil War enthusiast Terry Tuley, Battlefields & Blessings: Stories of Faith and Courage from The Civil War is a unique daily devotional for Christians - one that compiles true quotes and stories from Christians who served in the American Civil War. Each day of the year has a corresponding page with an anecdote concerning the uplifting power of faith, especially amidst a lethal war in which death by bullets, shrapnel, and disease were ever-present. These real-world examples of courage and faith, in the very words of the individuals who personally faced the dark hours of war, make Battlefields & Blessings a truly unforgettable means to contemplate God with each new dawn.
Worthwhile Devotional
This is a well written devotional that I look forward to reading every day. It makes me realize that worshiping the Lord and reading his Word is just as important today as it was in the 1860's
wonderfully insightful
I highly recommend this book. As a Christian, as an American, as a history lover, and book lover....this book covers a lot.
